Hoopoe watching in Ziro, Arunachal
The Upupa epops or Hoopoe favours a wide swathe of terrain around the world, including the open fields and terraces of Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh, India.
Bird enthusiasts can have a very good time in Ziro Valley where you can actually wake up to the chirping of various birds, of all sizes and shapes.
Ziro is situated in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, 167 kms from the capital Itanagar. It can be reached via road from Guwahati or Dibrugarh towns in Assam.
Just 167km from the capital, Itanagar, Ziro is one of the oldest towns in Arunachal Pradesh. Situated in a valley, it is at a height of over 5500 feet above sea level, with a beautiful view of the mountains that surround it.
Ziro is primarily home to the Apatanis -- simple, friendly and hospitable people with an interesting culture and legacy. They are a non-nomadic, agrarian tribe who share a responsible relationship with nature. Apatanis cultivate permanent wet land cultivations instead of dry land cultivations which involves burning forests. Ziro valley is lush with paddy farms and is known for its unique paddy cum fi sh cultivation where using traditional irrigation methods, farmers rear fish in the knee-deep water. Keeping them company are the adorable, shy, and harmless Indian Bisons.

VIJAYNAGAR ADVANCE LANDING GROUND ALG DEDICATED TO THE NATION AND PEOPLE OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH
VIJAYNAGAR ADVANCE LANDING GROUND ALG DEDICATED TO THE NATION AND PEOPLE OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH
Air Marshal RD Mathur, AOC-in-C Eastern Air Command and Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, GOC-in-C Eastern Command jointly inaugurated the resurfaced runway at Vijaynagar ALG on 18 Sep 2019, thereby re-establishing military transport aircraft connectivity at this Eastern most hamlet of India. Several other high ranking officers of the Army and Air Force were also present on the occasion. Repair of the runway at Vijaynagar, which was coordinated by Air Force Station Jorhat, was a challenging task because, there being no road connectivity, all the load had to be airlifted by helicopters. The movement of larger transport aircraft to and from this airfield will act as a catalyst for the development of the area and facilitate movement of the locals.
2. The airfield is important not only for the local administration in extending their reach to the residents of this remote area but also crucial from a strategic point of view. The ALG will assist in effective management of our borders with Myanmar and facilitate launch of joint operations by Indian Army and Air Force for the defence of the Vijaynagar salient.
3. The Army Commander and the AOC-in-C, while interacting with the locals and ex-servicemen at Vijaynagar, commended them for their unflinching dedication to the nation and expressed the hope that air connectivity with the rest of the country would open a world of opportunities for them.

Mithun or Gayal, the state animal of Arunachal Pradesh
Mithun, also known as ‘Cattle of Mountain” is an important bovine species of north-eastern hill region of India and also of China, Myanmar, Bhutan and Bangladesh. This magnificent massive bovine is presently reared under free-range condition in the hill forests at an altitude of 1000 to 3000 m above mean sea level. Mithun plays an important role in the socio-economic and cultural life of the local tribal population. Presently, this animal is mainly reared for meat, which is considered to be more tender and superior over the meat of any other species. Mithun milk, though produced less in quantity, is of high quality and can be used for preparation of various milk products. Leather obtained from this species has been found to be superior to cattle.
With the dwindling population of Mithun over the years and gradual denudation of free range area along with the biotic and abiotic stress, there is urgent need of scientific intervention for proper management as well as conservation of this beautiful hill animal through implementing an effective conservation program.
India at large and specifically the North-East India is the hotspot of floral and faunal biodiversity and the habitat of a number endemic species. Of these species, Mithun (Bos frontalis) is an important one which needs support for healthy propagation. However, due to denudation of free range along with the biotic and abiotic stress, there is urgent need of scientific intervention for proper management as well as conservation of this beautiful hill animal through implementing an effective conservation programme. Biotechnologies such as cryopreservation of semen and embryos, coupled with artificial insemination and embryo transfer are important potential tools for the preservation of animal biodiversity. Frozen semen technology offers a very potent means of in vitro conservation of male germplasm.

Arunachal Pradesh : The land of the rising Sun
The last sentinal of the North eastern states. The first to be kissed by the morning sun. Arunachal Pradesh - the land of the rising sun. Mysterious, magical, mystical.
Arunachal is vast. It is the largest of the North eastern state. It's terrain, difficult. Vacationing here is exciting, enlightening, adventurous. The tough terrain is a trekker's delight and it's amazing range of flora and fauna, a naturalist's dream.
Bomdila, the home of the Monpas is a beautiful small town situated at a height of about 8,00 feet. The Buddhist monastery of Bomdila is a repository of culture and is among the primary attractions of the area.
And then it appears, like an apparition, like an answer to a prayer, a penance. The 400 year old fortress monastery of Tawang. A palpable detachment with the world, as though the stunning starkness of nature lends a proximity to the divine. In the sanctorum, a gigantic 10 metre statue of the Buddha looks down benignly. The monastery also houses a large collection of priceless manuscripts, ancient books and antique thangkas.
The Namdapha national park for both the truly dedicated wilderness and wildlife fan and for the uninitiated. The only natural habitat where four of the great felines are found. The Tiger, the Leopard, the Snow Leopard and the Clouded Leopard. The sanctuary also has 150 species of trees and a fabulous wealth of medicinal and ornamental plant life.
The most scantily populated of the north east states, Arunachal is a treasure trove of ethnic diversity and ancient traditions. It is home to 26 major indigenous tribes, each with distinctive features. Some are highly skilled in weaving, producing some of the most brilliant carpets and shawls in the north east.
