Namur(Namen) City, Belgium
Namur is the capital of Wallonia and the Namur province. The town sits at the foot of the banks of the Sambre and Meuse. The city is known as a university town, because Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix has several schools in the city. This fact makes the old town of Namur buzzing with activity. Anywhere near the historic buildings of the city you can come across student groups. The students also enjoy themselves in little cute trendy eateries and bars in the city. As soon as the sun shines, the students appear on the many small squares terraces.

When you walk through the old town during a visit to Namur, you will notice that many old buildings in the old town are still in excellent condition. Many of these buildings have been hit hard in the First and Second World War but were later restored.

Namur Belgium
An introduction to the city of Namur.
Belgium: Namur and its Citadel
Namur (Namen) is a city and municipality in Wallonia, in southern Belgium. It is both the capital of the province of Namur and (since 1986) of Wallonia.
Namur stands at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers.
Namur came to prominence during the early Middle Ages, when the Merovingians built a castle or citadel on the rocky spur overlooking the town at the confluence of the two rivers.
The town's most prominent sight is the citadel, now demilitarised and open to the public. Namur also has a distinctive 18th century cathedral dedicated to Saint Aubain.
The towns location at the head of the Ardennes made it a popular tourist center.

Next morning I set off for an hour trip to Abbaye Villers-la-Ville, a former abbey from the 13th century now in ruins, but still stands tall and beautiful. It is MASSIVE and is a must see in Walloon. My evening ended in the not so pretty former industrial city of Charleroi. There is no tourism and the city reminded me of Newark, New Jersey. Some locals I spoke with are not too proud of the bad reputation of the city and I saw why. But Charleroi is the perfect place for urban exploration and too see some abandoned places. The one place I saw was the IM power plant tower, a lonesome tower that you can walk into that is incredibly surreal and made Charleroi perfect for a night stay.
Next city was Namur where I Couchsurfed for the first time during this trip. I had the pleasure of walking around the city, river, and up the citadel that overlooks the split of the rivers, city and beyond. One thing that is incredible about this city is that it is a city, but farmlands exist so close in the horizon. It was gorgeous. Most of the trip I had a beer or two in different places to try beer. But I hadn't actually really DRANK heavy since my bon voyage party a week before departure. With my hosts, we went to a local college bar and downed plenty of brews, had good chats, played foosball, and had a great time. Don't ask about my hangover the next day.
4 hours of sleep without a shower and a migraine later, I set off for Dinant where my next hosts a Belgian travel couple picked me up and drove me to their beautiful home on the Meuse river next to a church. Every BNB should have a host that loves what they do and care for their guests. This place really defined that, as they were possibly the nicest people I've ever met. I loved them! The rest of the day I walked around Dinant and both sides of the bank and up the citadel to get nice pan ams of the city. The city was also destroyed and attacked by Germany during WW1, a part of history that fascinates me incredibly. On top of that, i am ther 102 years since that war. Next day was a rough day for me but I saw a castle, an abandoned home/castle and bike around some gorgeous countryside.
Throughout the 2 weeks spent in this country, I've met some amazing people, tasted some incredible brews, ate delicious Belgian waffles (Which I understood are mostly from Liege), learned some important French words, understood the concept of kissing on the cheek with other men, and enjoyed some Belgian chocolate. Best of, I am happy to have spent half of the country with someone. Onto Luxembourg… to be continued. :)

Must see Citadel of Namur -Belgium
The Citadel or Castle of Namur is a fortress in the Walloon capital city of Namur, at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers. It is originally from the Roman era, but has been rebuilt several times. Its current form was designed by Menno van Coehoorn, and improved upon by Vauban after the siege of 1692. It has been classified as a Wallonia's Major Heritage site.
The original citadel dates to 937. It achieved its present extent between 1631 and 1675, when the city was under Dutch control. This section was called Terra Nova to distinguish it from the smaller Médiane fort built adjacent in 1542 and ensuing years. A variety of subsidiary positions were built in the 18th century. It was disestablished as a military post in 1891, superseded by a new ring of forts around Namur that were calculated to prevent the city from being attacked with artillery. This ring became the Fortified Position of Namur in the 1930s. The Citadel was used as protected space for the PFN command post.[1]
Together with Dinant, Huy and Liège, the Citadel of Namur forms part of the so-called Meuse Citadels.

The journey by train started in Eindhoven, Netherlands, but the video begins with sceneries from Station Namur (Namen), in Belgium.
This part one of two ends in Station Luxembourg.
Part two starts in Station Luxembourg, and the journey will be continued towards Thionville (France) , Metz (France), Nancy (France), Vittel.... France....
The video is without music, but train travel lovers know that the sound of trains IS music.... all adds would disturb the atmosphere......

Traveling by train offers the opportunity to meet people, to contact, to inform, to unite.
Traveling by train is one of the most excellent ecological ways to travel: that means that this way of travelling is supporting nature, environment, and so: mankind.
