Nandi Hills Sunset - Chikkaballapur - Karnataka - Traveling in India

There are many stories about the origin of the name Nandi Hills. During the Chola period, Nandi Hills was called Anandagiri meaning The Hill of Happiness. It is also perhaps called Nandi Hills because the hills resemble a sleeping. Another theory holds that the hill gets its name from an ancient, 1300-year-old Dravidian-style Nandi temple situated on this hill.

TRAVEL VLOGS -
When :
We visited Nandi hills in Late January on a Sunday morning.
From were:
We started our travel at 5 am in the morning from Ulsoor lake. It is 62 km approx. via Bellary Rd.
The Journey:
The journey to Nandi Hills was pretty pleasant and fast until we reached the foothills.
At around 5.30 am there were vehicles stacked up on the way making it impossible to drive.
We managed to climb up few hair pin bends but finally decided to stop and park our car to the side of the road and trek our way up.
The traffic jam so early in the morning was unreal. Nandi hills have become way too commercialized as I remember visiting Nandi Hills 6 years back and it was so much peaceful and less crowded back then.
So we took the rock way and started climbing up after trekking for 15 min we actually found a stairway to the top but we did miss the sunrise. Thanks to the traffic jam.by the time we reached up the sun was well up in the sky and it was usually crowded at 6.30 am in the morning.
We spend 10-15 min admiring the beauty of the place but the crowd was a turn-off, we started our way down through the same stairs we took to climb up, reached our car and drove back. on the way back had some scrumptious breakfast at a very famous joint in Bangalore called the MTR.
My Verdict:
Nandi Hills is a beautiful hill with a mindblowing view but if you have to enjoy the sunrise skip the weekends completely or start much early..in our case it should have been 3 am may be then we could reach on time for the sunrise :P
Overall a good drive and a nice weekend getaway.
