Bandipur tiger reserve: The beauty & the beast
This week our special episode focuses on Bandipur National Park in Karnataka. Bandipur which part of the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve is part of the belt that has the highest density of tigers in India. The NDTV team was fortunate enough to spot the majestic beast in all its glory. The forests of Bandipur is known for its beautiful landscape used to be a hunting ground of the Maharaja's of Mysore in the past. The tiger reserve in Bandipur was declared a tiger reserve as part of project tiger in 1973. With a variety of flora and fauna these jungles are home to our national animal and its protectors the Special Tiger Protection Force or STPF of Bandipur whom we interact with as they look for snares to prevent poachers from hunting game within the park. The STPF is not equipped well at the moment, although through the Aircel-NDTV Save our tigers campaign the forest department of Bandipur and Nagarhole did receive two rapid response units. We also focus on funding and how corporates like Aircel play a major role in helping forest departments. Man-Animal conflict also is a predominant issue in this park and we look at measures being initiated to combat such issues.

Alipurduar Junction railway station:
Alipurduar Junction is one of the four railway stations that serve Alipurduar in Jalpaiguri district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The other three stations are: Alipurduar, Alipurduar Court and New Alipurduar. The Cooch Behar State Railway built a 762 mm (2 ft 6 in) narrow gauge railway from Geetaldaha on the Eastern Bengal Railway to Jainti in 1901. The line passed through Alipuduar. It was converted to 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) metre gauge in 1910. With the partition of India in 1947, railway links of Assam and the Indian part of North Bengal, earlier passing through the eastern part of Bengal, were completely cut off from the rest of India. The Assam Rail Link project was taken up on 26 January 1948 and the first train ran on the route on 26 January 1950. The project basically was a 229 kilometres (142 mi) long 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) metre gauge line linking Fakiragram with Kishanganj. It ran through Alipurduar. The route was converted to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) broad gauge in 2003-2006. Northeast Frontier Railway converted the Alipurduar-Bamanhat branch line to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) Broad gauge in 2007.

Hathni Mata Waterfall, Jambughoda, Panchmahal, Gujarat
Hathni Mata Waterfall is situated near Jambughoda Sanctuary and Pavagadh. It's around 75 KMs from Vadodara and 175 KMs from Ahmedabad. The place is nice with lots of greenery around. It's a good place for a small picnic. Though the day I went there, there wasn't much water so falls were dried up. Still, it was too crowded! The roads to reach there are very narrow so you can stuck up in traffic jams on weekends when there are many visitors.
