THE AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL ART MUSEUM
National Art Museum of Azerbaijan
All the kinds and genres of art, its styles dependent on geographical location of people and nations, ethnic and mental factors and historical events, are the embodiement of their spiritual, moral worlds, ways of life and world outlooks to which they add their hues, mentality and characteristics. All these influence the mood of the creator and these are clearly expressed in famous sculptures and portraits, paintings and works of decorative-applied art belonging to ancient times, Middle Ages, late XVII-XVIII centuries that you will see at the early minutes of the video material that reflects amazing collection of National Art Museum of Azerbaijan.
Cold and hot, contrasting and pastel colors, beautiful transitions and optimism are some of the main characteristics of Azerbaijani applied folk art. Carpets, metal dishes, pottery, national clothes, table covers, household things reflect the beauty of Azerbaijani nature and vary in terms of content and geographical location.

The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center ( Heydər Əliyev Mərkəzi) - is a cultural complex constructed in Baku, Azerbaijan. The complex is designed by renowned Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The Cultural Center will house a conference hall with 3 auditoriums, a library and a museum.
Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center occupies the area of 57,519 sq m rising to a height of 22m. The proposal for the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center envisions a fluid form which emerges by the folding of the landscape's natural topography and by the wrapping of individual functions of the Center. All functions of the Center, together with entrances, are represented by folds in a single continuous surface. This fluid form gives an opportunity to connect the various cultural spaces whilst, at the same time, providing each element of the Center with its own identity and privacy. As it folds inside, the skin erodes away to become an element of the interior landscape of the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center.
The immateriality of a building that varies between white, whiter, and whitest—depending on how the sun strikes its radial surfaces—seems weightless, releasing visitors from gravitational obligations. As an object, the building is subjective, provoking strong feelings cued by the physics of suspending gravity.
The main building of the Cultural Center consists of three parts: Museum of Heydar Aliyev, exhibition centers and Auditorium
Exhibitions centres: Masterpieces of Azerbaijan, Mini-Azerbaijan,Welcome to Azerbaijan , Azerbaijani Cuisine

Welcome to Baku Art Museum | Big in Baku
Set across two floors of a sleek building conceived by Baku-based artist Altay Sadigzadeh, the city's Museum of Modern Art is home to a wealth of contemporary works by Azerbaijani artists, as well as a smattering of European masters including Dali and Picasso.
Opened in 2009, the art spills on to the pavement outside, making it almost impossible to walk past without being lured in off the street for an eyeful of local talents like Rasim Babayev, Nadir Kasimov and Aga Ousseinov.

Azerbaijan Carpet Museum | Big In Baku
On 26 August 2014, one of the most striking of Baku's new wave of architectural gems was inaugurated on the edge of the Caspian Sea: the State Museum of Azerbaijani Carpet. After something of a nomadic existence, the huge collection of 10,000 carpets from the 17th to the 20th century was granted a new home having been recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage. As well as being brilliantly photogenic, the museum, designed in the form of a huge folded carpet, also houses ceramics, 14th-century metal work, bronze-age jewellery and a permanent collection of 600 carpets from the Shusha Museum of History.

The Art of Azerbaijan (Part I)
The modern art of Azerbaijan is known in today's Russia much less than in Western European countries. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union the previous inter-republic culture ties were almost cut off and the works of the Azerbaijani artists had virtually no exhibition in Russia. At the same time, the New Wave of the 1980s had raised the Azerbaijani painting to a significant phenomenon in the world art. Apart from the widely known artists like Takhir Salakhov and Togrul Narimanbekov other painters arose who turned to different, greatly diverse subjects.
Nowadays the works of Azerbaijani artists seems to be remarkable and highly significant phenomenon in the world art. Undoubtedly, easel painting stand out sharply against the background. The present and centuries-old traditions, the western education and eastern luxury nostalgia, the knowledge of modern art trends and masterful grasp of the artistic skills worthy of the old masters intertwined in their paintings.

Azerbaijan is known for having nine of the 11 defined ecological zones. Much of the country is temperate year-round. Nation-wide the average temperature for the year is 14-15°C (57-59°F). The Caucasus Mountains protect the country from the Arctic air masses that affect Russia in winter while the Caspian Sea shields it from the hot, dry air of Central Asia in the summer.
Cabbage, grape leaves, and eggplant wrapped meat (kelem, yarpaq, badimjan - dolmasi), kabab (kebab), rice with different variety of toppings (plov - It is said that plov is the king of Azerbaijani cuisine), gutabs and meatballs (kufta) are some of the several specialties of Azerbaijan.
Some local drinks include ayran (a yogurt drink based on sour milk) and sherbet (made from rose petals or saffron). There are also different sorts of quite decent wines produced from local grapes and a wide array of mineral waters from natural springs. In some areas of Azerbaijan the markets offer lemonades (limonat/dushes) made from pears or taragon.
There is a good selection of hotels in Baku, including many Western chains, but options elsewhere in the country are limited. Prices for the hotels start from USD60 and higher. Rental apartments might be a good choice as they are cheaper than hotels and sometimes are even more comfortable.
