Considered as the most iconic structure in Papua New Guinea, the National Parliament House holds the governmental legislature proceedings and signifies the legislative power of its people since the country’s independence in 1975.
The building of the structure commenced in 1980 and was completed and inaugurated by Britain’s Prince Charles (eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II) in 1984.
Designed to reflect the traditional architecture of Papua New Guinea, the National Parliament House is decorated with traditional carvings and artwork depicting the rich heritage of almost a thousand tribes that joined together as one nation.

PNG prime minister Sir Michael Somare threatened to kill an opposition MP after parliament adjourned.

In September of 2016, the Independent Fundamental Life Baptist Churches Of Papua New Guinea had their annual Tent Meeting in Port Moresby. One of the highlights of that tent meeting is visiting the Parliament House of PNG and seeing the Great 1611 King James Bible.
Somare not happy about the Destruction of PNG's National Parliament House
Founding Father of PNG, Sir Michael Somare, has come out publicly about the destruction of the parliament house by the two disciplinary forces on Tuesday.
He was at the National Alliance Party head office today to comment on the destruction at the Parliament House.
Full Cabinet for 10th National Parliament Announced Today
The full Cabinet of Papua New Guinea's 10th National Parliament has been announced today in Port Moresby.
The announcement and swearing in was conducted this afternoon at the Government House, before Governor General, Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae.
Also present to witness the event were the Heads of most government departments and agencies.

The National Parliament of Papua New Guinea is the unicameral national legislature in Papua New Guinea.It was created in 1964 as the House of Assembly of Papua and New Guinea but gained its current name after the nation was granted independence in 1975.The 111 members of parliament serve five-year terms, 89 of whom are chosen from single-member open electorates, which are sometimes referred to as seats but are officially known as constituencies.The remaining 22 are chosen from single-member provincial electorates: the 20 provinces, the autonomous province of Bougainville , and the National Capital District.

Angry Disciplinary Officers ransacked Papua New Guinea Parliament
The National Parliament of Papua New Guinea has come under attack today (November 20) as angry police and CIS officers stormed into the parliament building and destroyed the main entrance into Parliament house.
The looting at the Parliament is out of frustration over delayed allowances owed to these officers for APEC Security Operations.

10th National Parliament Official Opening
It was a show of Papua New Guinea’s democracy as members of the 10th Parliament were welcomed into the National Parliament house today for their first sitting.
Following the Westminster rules, the chief justice and the governor general formally opened the new parliament.
In his address to the members, Governor-General, Sir Bob Dadae called on the MP’s to uphold personal integrity, sense of duty and their conduct must be above reproach.

The group is made up largely of military police and the Papua New Guinea correctional services. The officers are demanding their unpaid bonuses, after working to keep the peace while the capital Port Moresby hosted the APEC summit — a first for the impoverished Pacific nation.
