Planetarium Negara KL | The National Planetarium Kuala Lumpur | Tourists Attraction in Malaysia
The National Planetarium (Planetarium Negara) is conveniently located in Kuala Lumpur's Lake Gardens, the green lung in the heart of the city.
The building, which was opened to the public in 1993 and has been cleverly designed to resemble a blue-domed mosque, sits on a small hill between the Bird Park and the National Museum.
To be honest the exhibits inside are not that impressive but there are a few highlights. There is a mock-up of the interior of the International Space Station showing the sleeping and toilet arrangements. Quite interesting!
The space suit of the first Malaysian astronaut is on display together with examples of the ready meal packs he took into space containing Malaysian delights such as Nasi Lemak!
There is supposed to be an observatory and telescope in the tower which looks like a minaret but it is was either closed down during our visit or we failed to notice it.
The main highlight of the visit for us was undoubtedly the Omnimax-style film projected on the interior roof of the dome. Seated on comfortable reclining cinema chairs the huge screen gives a panoramic viewing effect that enhances the content of the film.

Being located in Lake Gardens, you could include a visit to the National Planetarium as part of my Lake Gardens walking tour.
Taxi or self-driving is probably the best way to reach the Lake Gardens.
If you want to travel by train the closest station (KTM Komuter) is the historic old Kuala Lumpur station and from there you can walk.

The last time I visited Planetarium Negara (National Planetarium), Kuala Lumpur was back in 2010 when I brought my niece and nephews. After 9 years, finally I'm back, with my two busy bees!
There's not much change in the Kuala Lumpur Planetarium beside the new (not sure how new) Space Pod. I remember I played a virtual football at the main space there.
But for a free entrance centre, I think what we can see and learn from the exhibition centre is good enough. We didn't went into the theatre as I think it's not really suitable for 2-year-old Bilal. (He might get bored?)

Visited National Planetarium a couple of years ago and thought of checking it out again. So me and RJ dropped by during the weekend.
Sadly, the whole experience was just underwhelming. The place was tattered with lots of things under maintenence. Our main goal was to visit the observatory deck (Nice view of KL together with telescope viewing) but too bad the place was closed as well.
Also, most of the exhibition were catered to younger crowd so it wasn't too appealing to us.
However, the planetarium show was pretty enjoyable with a mere RM 6 ticket.
Overall, the whole place had a lot of room for improvement but I would't mind going to this place again when the observatory deck is ready.

National Planetarium, Malaysia - Top 10 Around
Planetarium Negara Malaysia, or National Planetarium is located at the Lake Gardens on Jalan Perdana, Kuala Lumpur. The key shaped building with an iconic blue dome offers an insight into space and science.
