More red-crowned cranes observed in NW China
About 19 red-crowned cranes, including 15 adults and 4 little ones, have been spotted in Zhangye National Wetland Park, a wetland reserve in the northwestern province of Gansu.

E-Skating China's Grand Canyon, The Amazing Pingshanhu
After visiting Zhangye's Wetland Park (previous episode), we took a hired car to Pingshan Lake, or Pingshanhu (平山湖), also known as China's Grand Canyon. It was a bit far from town. From Pingshanhu's entrance, we had to take a 17 km shuttle ride to go into the scenic area. To conserve battery power on our Backfire Ranger X1 electric skateboards, we took the shuttle in and skated out. We got out right before dark.

Birds on the Edge of the Gobi Desert in China and a Surprise Shot!
There's a birding reserve on the edge of the Gobi Desert in Northern China called the Zhangye Wetland Park that I visited one cold morning recently. The wetland is is located in the Gansu Province, in the city of Zhangye.
There I captured photos of Australian Black Swans, Eurasian Tree Sparrows, Bewick's Swans, Ruddy Shelducks, the endangered Red-Crowned Cranes, and a surprise shot on my way out of a Great Spotted Woodpecker!
Thanks to the Cotton Carrier harness system, I was able to quickly react to all these birds while trekking through the park, especially the woodpecker, who surprised me on my way out when I thought I was all done.

This morning we explored a couple landmarks in Zhangye city before heading out to Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon in the afternoon. We visited the giant reclining Buddha at Zhangye Buddha Temple, and then cruised around a fantastic bike path at the Zhangye National Wetland Park.

The Chinese Side of the Gobi Desert
My wife and I went for a 5 day trip to the Gansu Province of China. This is the Chinese side of the Gobi Desert. We were surprised by the amount of Buddhist history in the province. Stargazing in the dunes of Dunhuang was definitely an unforgettable memory.

SILK ROAD - CHINA
HERE WE GO! This is a travel music video of my journey along China's epic Silk Road in December 2016. Please give it a thumbs up, share and subscribe!
Most of the footage is captured with a DJI Phantom Drone and the rest with either Canon DSLR or iPhone.
The route started in Lanzhou, Gansu province and then westwards to Urumqi mostly by high-speed train. The video loosely follows this route chronologically; so hopefully you'll enjoy being somewhat informed too! Any questions about these places, please ask.

---Zhangye - Home to wetlands, plains, desert and mountains; we visited Binggou Canyon and Danxia rainbow mountains.
---Jiayuguan - site of the western most point of The Great Wall of China and Jiayuguan historic fort.
---Dunhuang - Here, the first spring - a crescent moon shaped oasis in the middle of a huge range of desert sand dunes.
---Turpan - Wine country! (Well, grapes).. and the epic flaming mountains, Turpan has one of the oldest underground irrigation systems which feeds water from the mountains to civilization.
---Urumqi - A huge sprawling city full of many ethnic minorities in China with very interesting food and a lot of police checks!

At first , I thought this place is the highlight of my trip to Xining. I booked a driver before fly to Lanzhou and find that he was super expensive and overcharged me. Started off my tour with Lead to China by visiting some local spots around Zhangye, China! We went to a few temples in town including the Big Buddha, a wetlands museum and saw some of the local squares.
