West Bali National Park is a nature conservation area that covers 190 square kilometers with another 580 square kilometers of protected reserve. The park is used for educational, research and recreational purposes and startles the border between the districts of Jembrana and Buleleng. The West Bali National Park is the only place where Bali’s official bird –the Bali starling (jalak bali) can be found in the wild.
The park is made up of dry savanna, acacia scrub, lowland forests, mountains forest and some pockets of dense mangrove forest. Some of the distinctive fauna of the West Bali National Park includes: banteng (Bos javanicus), barking deer (Muntiacus muntjac), mouse deer (Tragulus javanicus), rusa (Cervus timorensis), forest cat (Felis bengalensis), grey monkey (Macaca fascicularis), black monkey (Presbytis Criscata), white starling (Stunus melanopterus), yellow-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier), orioles (Oriolus chinensis) kingfisher (Halcyon Chloris).
Visitors can access the park by way of Lovina that is 90 minutes away, or though Pemuteran or Gilimanuk both of which are 15 minutes away from one of the park’s entrances. All visitors must check in at one of the two park offices (PHPA) that are located in Cekik Village and Albuan Lalang respectively. Here visitors can further information, purchase an entrance ticket and arrange for a guide guide.
West Bali National Park (Taman Nasional Bali Barat in Bahasa Indonesia) is the most north-westerly point of Bali. It includes the whole of the Prapat Agung Peninsula, and large swathes of land around the towns of Gilimanuk, Cekik and Banyuwedang. The official area inside the park boundaries is 190 square kilometres, with a further 580 square kilometres of protected reserve in the highlands to the east. In total this accounts for some ten percent of Bali's total land area.
History
The park was first officially recognised as an area of importance in 1917 when the council of Bali rulers designated it as a nature park. It was fully established as an Indonesian National Park in 1941.
Landscape
The habitat is very varied with rainforest, dry savanna, acacia scrub and lowland forests, as well as more montane forests in the higher centre. There are also some pockets of dense mangrove forest.
In the north of the park there is an obvious north jutting peninsula called Prapat Agung. Around this peninsula there are long stretches of protected beach and offshore coral reef as well, as a small offshore island called Menjangan. The latter is a very popular diving destination.
There are several long extinct volcanoes in the protected reserve area to the east, with Mount Patas (1,412 metres) and Mount Merbuk (1,388 metres) being the highest points. These peaks are dominant visual landscape features from within every area of the park.
Bali - City Video Guide
The beautiful province of Bali lies between the islands of Java and Lombok.
The south of Bali is known for its sandy beaches and great surf. The crescent-shaped Kuta Beach has been a popular coastal resort since the 1960s. Legian, Double Six and Seminyak are three more of south Bali's finest beaches.
Close to Seminyak is Petitenget Temple. Today, this centuries-old place of worship is alive with restaurants and fashion boutiques. Uluwatu is another of Bali's temple, this one perched dramatically atop a cliff.
In the west of Bali is Jimbaran, renowned for its seafood restaurants.
Bali is awash with exotic wildlife. Bali Bird Park is a sanctuary to over 1000 birds from Indonesia and beyond. Bali Zoo gives visitors the chance to ride on the back of an elephant. The Sacred Monkey Forest is another enchanting Bali wildlife hotspot.
Bali's cultural capital Ubud buzzes with culture; attractions include the Neka Art and Puri Lukisan museums, and the Arma Museum.

Wonderful Indonesia
The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world comprising 17,504 large and small tropical islands fringed with white sandy beaches, many still uninhabited and a number even still unnamed. Straddling the equator, situated between the continents of Asia and Australia and between the Pacific and the Indian Oceans, it is as wide as the United States from San Francisco to New York, equaling the distance between London and Moscow. Indonesia has a total population of more than 215 million people from more than 200 ethnic groups. The national language is Bahasa Indonesia.
Among the most well known islands are Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan (formerly Borneo), Sulawesi (formerly Celebes), the Maluku Islands (or better known as Moluccas, the original Spice Islands) and Papua. Then, there is Bali the world's best island resort with its enchanting culture, beaches, dynamic dances and music. But Indonesia still has many unexplored islands with grand mountain views, green rainforests to trek through, rolling waves to surf and deep blue pristine seas to dive in where one can swim with dugongs, dolphins and large mantarays.
Because of her location, and geology, Indonesia is blessed with the most diverse landscape, from fertile ricelands on Java and Bali to the luxuriant rainforests of Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, to the savannah grasslands of the Nusatenggara islands to snow-capped peaks of West Papua.
Her wildlife ranges from the prehistoric giant Komodo lizard to the Orang Utan and the Java rhino, to the Sulawesi anoa dwarf buffalos, to birds with exquisite plumage like the cockatoo and the bird of paradise. This is also the habitat of the Rafflesia the world's largest flower, wild orchids, an amazing variety of spices, and aromatic hardwood and a large variety of fruit trees. Underwater, scientists have found in North Sulawesi the prehistoric coelacanth fish, a living fossil fish, predating the dinosaurs living some 400 million years ago, while whales migrate yearly through these waters from the South Pole. Here are hundreds of species of colourful coral and tropical fish to admire. Culturally, Indonesia fascinates with her rich diversity of ancient temples, music, ranging from the traditional to modern pop, dances, rituals and ways of life, changing from island to island, from region to region. Yet everywhere the visitor feels welcomed with that warm, gracious innate friendliness of the Indonesian people that is not easily forgotten.
