Birdwatching in Spain #VisitSpain
Discover Spain's natural wild attractions in protected nature areas, and help towards their conservation.
The flights of migratory birds between Europe and Africa make the Strait of Gibraltar a paradise for ornithologists, who should on no account miss a visit to the mountain ranges of Andalusia. The winter concentrations of the European populations of cranes and geese, and the vast numbers of water birds that flock to its world-renowned wetlands are a unique sight. Be sure not to miss this on your trip to Spain!
Wildlife: wildlife and nature watching.

TRAVEL ASTURIAS | Natural Paradise of Spain | Paraiso Natural. Rio Dobra. Viajar Asturias.
In this episode we travel from Galicia along the coast to the province of Asturias, in Spain. We visit chapels and swim in rivers and visit the farm that we lived on for a few years before having kids. Asturias is known for its insanely magical natural beauty. It has the high peaks of the Picos de Europa and it’s stunning, craggy coastline with it’s bright blue water. We fell in love with this region years ago when we volunteered here.
In the countryside of Asturias, the majority of people still live according to their ancient traditions. Many of them are shepherds and it's very common for many families to have their own cheese cave in the mountains to age their alpine cheeses. Also, the majority of people still forage for their sustenance, finding chestnuts, wild mushrooms, hazelnuts, apples to press for Sidra, walnuts, and cherries, which all grow wild in the forests.
It is a very unknown region, most often only visited by other Spaniards. It is a place to be completely surrounded by natural beauty and to find beautiful, quiet countryside villages in the mountains or on the coast.
Please let us know if you have visited this area before or if you plan to go soon!

SOLO VAN LIFE IN LA ALCADAISA Costa del Sol / Spain Ep 33
F I N A L L Y a new video from the Vangirl.
I was so busy lately that I had no time to go thru my footage and edit videos. But now at least a short one from back in September when I stoped with my beloved Mercedes Sprinter camper van in San Roque at the beautiful Playa El Alcaidesa.
I just stayed for one night, but really enjoyed it. Such a calm and beautiful place and even the policemen where lovely and wanted to take a look at the van. Unfortunately I didn't film that.
Hope you enjoy and next one will be from Tarifa and it will not take as long. Promise!
Andalusia, Beaches and the Cabo De Gata - Vanlife Vlog Episode 6
Exploring Southern Spain in our converted Luton van.
After moving on from Gibraltar, we headed along the Costa del Sol, exploring the great beaches of Andalusia and the national park of Cabo de Gata.
There has been a fair bit of wind but weather has been good overall and no problems (touch wood) with the van.

Tour of Tarifa and Gibraltar on 'When We Ruled Spain Tour' - October 2011
Video highlights and feedback of our tour to Tarifa and Gibraltar in October 2011.
We visited Tarifa, the closest European point to Africa (only 19 km) and the geographical border between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. We walked through the Gate of Jarez and visited the Caliphs Castle which is also known as the Castle of Guzman, built over an Alcazar constructed under the orders of the Caliph of Cordoba.
We took a trip to Gibraltar originally named Mons Calpe. The Moors renamed Mons Calpe to 'Gebel Tarik' meaning 'Hill/Rock of Tarik'. Gibraltar was the first point of the Moorish invasion of Southern Spain in 711 AD. In Gibraltar, we took a minibus trip around the Rock and learn about its unique history. The tour includes the drive up to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve where we visited St Michael's Cave and see the legendary Apes, the only wild Apes in Europe as well as enjoyed the fabulous views of the Straits of Gibraltar.
HOW WE DO IT - NATURE/CITIES - VAN LIFE SPAIN
After leaving the national park we find another great location before heading into Zaragoza and then onto Huesca before continuing North.

ᄿOUR STORY: Backroads of Montana. Watch Video here:
Our Story
Life is crazy! The tide smashes even the best-laid plans to sand… and so it goes!
This is a story about two people, who met by chance, were bound by fate and who continue to let the quirky side of life guide their paths! How else could a young man from a tiny town in Albania and a farm girl from the mountains of Montana meet in the middle, with a life guided by adventure?
We met in Rome. Engjell was a waiter in a little Roman restaurant down by Trevi Fountain and I was a student abroad, spending a year in the Eternal City. There are some pretty cheesy movies about the giggly American girl meeting the handsome foreigner abroad, who then spend all their time bombing around ancient ruins on a shiny moped, hair blowing in the wind and smiles from ear to ear. And yet… serendipity delivers! We did fall in love and he did have a moped…
In 2006, we moved back to the United States. We returned as a family of three, as little Fiona had been born in Rome at FateBeneFratelli, the hospital on an island… where all the Roman babies have been born for centuries! We moved often, looking for the perfect place. In 2010, we found an opportunity to open our own restaurant in Bigfork, Montana. We spent seven years and thousands of hours bringing the flavors of Italy to rural Montana. We were doing well! We were successful and busy and had finally bought our own home… we had a mortgage and car payments and a full-time, ultra-demanding job! We opened a second restaurant! We even added two more family members with the addition of Hugo and Remy!
We were living the dream! Or were we? On the outside, it looked like we had it all… that success had reached out its hand and we had graciously accepted. But in reality, we were working 80-100 hours each per week, we rarely saw our three beautiful kids who knew the nanny better than they did us, and we were burned out… from too much work, from too little time spent together as a family, from life! We had bought into the well-oiled idea of success and were realizing quickly the fatal flaws in our plan.
So we decided, together, to give it all up! We took the giant, terrifying, leap and sold it all to travel on a shoestring budget and let life teach us again, teach us anew, of what it looks like to be a successful human being! We are just beginning on this wonderful adventure! We have been traveling the U.S. for a year as a family in a motorhome. We are every day astounded by the diversity and creativity of both humans and Mother Nature. In July, we will set off for a one year trip around the world!
This time, too, food and wine lead our adventure. We hope to dig deep into every culture as we go, unearthing culinary tradition everywhere we go! We plan to travel to places where we can stage and work in restaurants and vineyards to learn more and to ultimately be able to take what we have learned and start fresh…inspired, changed… wherever we end up.
This trip is about re-defining success! It is about food and wine…about a plate of pasta or a shared bottle of wine, about experiences! It is about family and figuring out how we all fit together and what life’s REAL plan for us is! We invite you to join us in this crazy adventure as we travel the world!
Engjell, Kaleigh, Fiona, Hugo and Remy
