Wenceslas Square Prague Czech Republic - Statue of Saint Wenceslas New Town Prague
Wenceslas Square is one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities in the New Town of Prague, Czech Republic. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other public gatherings. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia [at 0:41 in this video]. It is part of the historic centre of Prague, a World Heritage Site. Formerly known as Koňský trh (Horse Market), for its periodic accommodation of horse markets during the Middle Ages, it was renamed Svatováclavské náměstí (English: Saint Wenceslas square) in 1848 on the proposal of Karel Havlíček Borovský.

The historic heart of Prague right in the heart of Europe is an exceptionally valuable urban monument zone. Prague's New Town - Sacred Places of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV.
The intention to establish a New Town of Prague was realized by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. after careful preparation. Its founding Charter was issued on 8th of March 1348 and just a few weeks later, attended by the Emperor and many guests from the Empire. The foundation stone of the New Town fortifications was laid. According to plans, it was supposed to be a “New Jerusalem”. The Emperor therefore ordered the construction of the churches and the monasteries. Five of them were raised in a shape of the regular cross overseen by the holiest place, Vysehrad. The goal of our short movie is to reveal this set up from bird's eye perspective and to present this part of Prague often neglected by tourists and even locals.

Prague - City Video Guide
The Central European city of Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and is one of the world's great architectural jewels.
Like a city from a children's story book the city conjures up images of romantic fairy stories and dark gothic folk tales.
The city is a cobblestone labyrinth where even locals get happily lost. An easy way to discover Prague is to follow the Royal Route, which starts at the Powder Tower and ends at Prague Castle.
Along the way, stop at Old Town Square, a plaza surrounded by former palaces. Highlights here include the Astronomical Clock and Tyn Church. Explore the Old Town to discover sidewalk cafes, galleries and the ancient Jewish Quarter.
Pass beneath the Bridge Tower, cross the beautiful Charles Bridge, then climb the hill to Prague Castle. Rising above the castle are the 600 year-old gothic spires of St Vitus Cathedral.
Nearby, visit the tiny houses of Golden Lane, once the homes of castle guards, and later, the city's goldsmiths.
At night, locals and travelers meet under the statue of St Wencesias, to begin even more adventures in this most magical of cities.
