Welcome to Sri Lanka - CHOGM 2013
This video clip was produced for and presented at the recently concluded Commonwealth Conference held in Perth, Australia, where Sri Lankan President welcomed the Heads of States of the Commonwealth to Sri Lanka to the next conference scheduled to be held in 2013. The video consists of aerial shots of the latest development taking place in Sri Lanka, including the new Colombo Matara Southern Express way, Suriyaweva International Test Cricket Stadium, Matthala International Airport (Hambanthotata), and the New Hambanthota Harbor. Needlessly say it was a fun shoot. Video is intermixed with stock footage from Sri Lanka Tourist Board, my commercials, and other material.

Sri Lankan Airlines | Colombo To Jakarta Immigration | Visa On Arrival | HD
#Sri_Lankan_Airlines #Colombo #VisaOnArrival
Getting a VISA ON ARRIVAL in Jakarta in Indonesia is pretty simple. To get a VOA at Sukarna Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, you will only need $35 USD or 500.000 Indonesian Rupiah.
The first step to get a VISA on arrival is super easy. Just go to the VOA counter at the Jakarta Airport and ask for a visa on arrival. Give your passport and pay 500.000 rupiah per person.
You will get two receipts. One you will have to give at customs, where you will get a stamp and a VISA sticker valid for 30 days. Then, within 30 days, you'll have to go to an immigration office somewhere in Indonesia to extend your VISA on Arrival to get a real VISA. This process has to be done at least 7 days before the first 30 days expire.
How this next step will exactly be...we don't know yet. So make sure to subscribe to see the next steps.
Through this video, I traveled from Bandaranaike International Airport Sri Lanka with recently held Sri Lankan Airlines to Soekarno-Hatta international Airport Jakarta (indonesia) and Airport Process like: Check in | We have shared information such as Immigrations | VISA ARIVAL, I hope you will be given the information given through this video in the future.

Ground crew into full swing of things as it unloads cargo and other material and getting the flight ready for its next departure.

Sense of Heritage -- Colombo to Kandy by Train
The 'Sense of Heritage' is all about iconic train, legendary railway line and World Heritage City. Sri Lanka Railway or Ceylon Railway made its first journey to Kandy in 1867, making a way for the planters to transport their coffee production to Colombo, 25 years after it was originally discussed in 1842. Today, you can travel along the same rail line to Kandy, the way your great grand parents did. The Viceroy Special vintage train adds glamour to the historic journey to the hill capital of Sri Lanka.
Combining Edwardian splendor with modern luxury, this authentic train has captured the imagination of many train enthusiasts and fans. It threads its way through majestic scenery and engineering marvel along its way to Kandy. Luxury seating and dining at your table ensures that you won't miss a single minute of the spectacular views.
The journey begins from the Fort Railway Station, a symbol of colonial architecture and reaches Maradana Hub Station, passing Beira Lake; followed by beautiful Hindu Kovil (place of worship). The train then crosses the 800 ft long main bridge over the Kelani River beyond the Dematagoda station to move out of Colombo. The train travels besides slums of city suburbs prior to reach Ragama, (9 miles away from Colombo) the first railway junction on the track where the northern and main railway lines meets.
Giving way to crowded residential areas, the train enters into the stretch of about 30 km of the greenery of paddy and coconut cultivations amidst sleepy villages and small towns. The change of environment is evident with the presence of mid range hills closer to Mirigama station, followed by the first tunnel on the Main Line, which is 274 ft. long, before reaching Ambepussa station, 54 km from Colombo. This was the terminus of the first train destination in 1864. The old station is still visible by the side.
The train continues its journey through moderate gradients, crossing the bridge over Maa Oya River and runs along the river bank before arriving at Polgahawela, the second railway junction that joins the northern railway line. The next main railway station is Rambukkana, 52 miles away from Colombo is significant for two reasons. Firstly, the train enters the hill country through a major climb which raises the railway line from 313 ft to a height of 1698 ft to reach Kadugannawa involving 13 miles. Secondly, this serves as the transit point to visit 'Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage' which has the largest number of elephants in captivity.

Colombo is not just another crowded city in South Asia as you’d expect it to be. You’ll find it is cleaner and less polluted than the rest of the SAARC countries. It stands at the 01st place for Mercer quality of living ranking in #SouthAsia and holds 18th place in the whole of #Asia.
According to Mercer, Sri Lanka’s commercial capital has the 05th highest cost of living in South Asia but only 33rd of whole Asia. Colombo is also ranked as 13th best connectivity port in the whole world by Drewry .
It is also the Financial and commercial capital of the Island nation Sri Lanka.
History of Colombo in brief
Colombo was well known since the early days as a port city. Early#Arabiantraders inhabited the area to control the international trading activities of ancient #Ceylon.
Unsurprisingly, the #Portuguese took over the port city from #Arabs to strengthen their #cinnamon trade in the region. They built a fortified fort near the harbour to protect themselves from other colonial powers.
The fort, however, doesn’t exist today and the area still identified as Colombo Fort which houses fancy hotels and head offices of major companies. The outer area is called “Pettah”.
After the #Portuguese, #TheDutch and #English made Colombo the capital of the Island and began to establish their official residences and government institutions. Due to this visitors to the city will find many samples of colonial architecture to feast their eyes upon.
How to get in there?
The capital is well-connected from all over the island. Getting there is not a big deal. (duh)
Arriving at #Bandaranayake International Airport at #Katunayake , Colombo is the first destination many travellers visit before heading to the hills country or southern beaches. The airport is located 32 km to the north of the capital city so I’m going to mention the ways to get in Colombo from there.
By Taxi
You don’t need to pre-book for Airport transfers. There is a 24 hour AC taxi service maintained by the Airport itself (BIA taxi).
The taxi lounge is to your right when exiting the airport next to the banks.
Alternatively, there are many reputed taxi services like Kangaroo Cabs, PickMe and of course good old Uber.
Hiring a taxi is the best option especially if you arrive at an ungodly hour when public transport is unreliable and sparse. You can also opt for a hotel transfer if it is cheaper but most of the time it is not.
The expressway (E03) to Colombo has tolls hence you’ll have to pay the toll fee (LKR 300) as well. Drivers must be paid in cash (LKR) at the end of the journey except for #Uber.
Make sure to book a cab from an official taxi service desk such as BIA. Avoid touts hanging around the waiting area at all cost.
For #KangarooCabs and #PickMe, there are apps which should be used to do the bookings. Buy a local SIM at the Airport for this purpose.
By Train
Although not recommended, commuter trains operate on this line and you get in at #Katunayake #SouthRailwaystation (Investment Promotion Zone) located some 02 km from the Airport just left of the fly-over bridge.
Please refer to the above-linked map exactly as there is another station so close to the Airport but it is used for freight trains only.

Pope Francis meets President of Sri Lanka
Pope Francis met on Friday with the president of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa, who also held talks with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
During their meeting the Pope and the President discussed the situation in Sri Lanka, with particular reference to recent social and economic progress.
Their discussion also focused on the forthcoming visit that Pope Francis will make to the island nation next January, in the hope that his journey will welcomed as a sign of solidarity with all the people of Sri Lanka and a moment of encouragement for all those working for justice, peace, reconciliation and the common good of the country.

None of us, if you speak to any of us the whole (team) members, honestly would have said to you that they never thought that they would come alive out of that situation. And we are very lucky that no one came across any serious injuries, life threatening, and that everyone is in good shape. There are a few guys who need a bit more time to recover and that we can hopefully put this behind us and move forward.

STORYLINE:
Sri Lanka's national cricket team arrived home in the capital Colombo before dawn on Wednesday, clearly shaken and weary after their team bus was ambushed by heavily armed gunmen in Pakistan a day earlier in an attack that killed six policemen and a driver.
Their arrival came just as Pakistan announced it was offering a 126-thousand US dollar reward for help in identifying the gunmen who attacked the team.
About a dozen attackers armed with guns, grenades and rocket launchers attacked the visiting players as they neared Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, triggering a 15-minute gun battle with security forces.
Six police officers and a driver were killed. Seven players, an umpire and an assistant coach were wounded, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Team captain Mahela Jayawardene said at one stage the team did not think they would survive the attack.
Jayawardene said he was happy to be home and glad he and his team-mates had survived the traumatic experience.
Authorities cancelled the test match against Pakistan and a special flight carried the Sri Lanka team - including Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana who had been hospitalised with bullet wounds - back to Colombo.
On arrival, the exhausted-looking players had an emotional private reunion with their families.
One of the players was taken from the airport to a hospital in Colombo.
Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Suranka Lakmal and Chaminda Vaas had minor wounds, and a bandage was clearly visible around Mendis' head.
