Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden of Lethbridge - 1992
This 1992 video slide presentation, titled Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden of Lethbridge, features photography by Dr. Van Christou, narration by Bill Skelton, with multi-image production by Heliographics , music by Sakuria and video translation by CFCN TV.
The accompanying booklet Dr. Van E. Christou recognises the following in the acknowledgements:
Inspriation for this photographic exhibition has sprung directly from the timeless beauty of our Lethbridge Japanese Tea Garden.
Having had an interest in Zen art and philosophy at the time construction of the garden began, I spent many days watching architects and craftsmen assemble elements of the garden; then returned in all season an in various levels of light to watch tamnd feel the garden mature into its present beautiful state.
This twenty-eight year odyseey has become an important part of my life, and I hope that the photographs I have presented might perform two functions: first, to pay tribute to Japanese-Canadian friendship and to those who coceived the dream ... brought it to fruition and continue to nurture this wonderful place at so high a intimate rapport with the garden - might be encouraged through these images to visit and enjoy this rare place of tranquillity and fathomless beauty.
Dr. Van E Cristou concludes the booklet with the following.
The Roji is the path
outside the world of restlessness
how could the dust
of the mind be scattered there?
The exhibit of Dr. Christou's photographs ran at the Galt Museum and Archive's George McKillop Gallery from May 15 to June 27, 1992.
