Avaldsnes Viking Village: Norway's Home of Viking Kings

A trip to the viking farm and Nordvegen history centre at Avaldsnes, near Haugesund in western Norway. More info and photos:

Avaldsnes was home to Norway's first viking king, Harald Hårfagre. Known as Harald Fairhair in English, the king was said to be the first to unite Norway's kingdoms into a single crown.

The viking village is set on a lovely wooded island, a 10-minute walk from the museum. The village is hosted by four actors dressed as the chieftain, his wife and their sons. I joined a guided tour led by the chieftain's wife.

Ever since the time before the Viking Age, Avaldsnes was a place of power. This is where the Vikings ruled the fairway that gave name to Norway – the way north.
Today, we still find Olav’s church at Avaldsnes, as well as Nordvegen History Center and the Viking Farm. These are all places of importance for the Vikings and the history of Norway, easily accessible from Haugesund.

About 10 minutes walking distance from Nordvegen History Center and St. Olav's Church at Avaldsnes, you find the Vikingfarm. The vikingfarm is rebuilt on the basis of archaeological discoveries made ​​in Rogaland. There you can visit the Long House , Round House , Pit house and Leidanger boathouse . These evocative and honored surroundings provides an immediate feeling of being back in the Viking Age.

Der kan du besøke Langhuset, Rundhuset, Grophuset og Leidangernaustet. Disse stemningsfulle og tradisjonstro omgivelsene gir deg en umiddelbar følelse av være tilbake i vikingtiden.

I am revisiting the Vikingfarm! 2 years ago I went out and made my first cinematic drone video. This time with better gear. Dji P4 Pro

This is part 1 of a longer project I am doing about the Vikingfarm on Bukkøy. I will be visiting this place multiple times and hopefully teaching you about the viking houses and what they did.

Next time I am definitly taking the Dji Mavic Air with me!
