norilsk coldest city in the world norilsk ||270 days of snow in the year|| norilsk
Discover history is channel
The northern hemisphere is currently cold and with cooling the daylight is decreasing, but the weather like norlisk city of Russia is usually not visible in other cities, where residents can't even see the sunlight till the middle of January and it is also known as the coldest city of the world.
This is one of the 2 Siberian cities which remain frozen whole year and in winter more than 100,000 residents of here face an average of minus 61 degree centigrade temperature. Overall whole year temperature is minus 10 centigrade and that is why it is also called coldest city because yakutsk's average temperature is higher than that of another city in Siberia.
Then it is snow and the city is covered with 270 days of snow all year and one out of every 3 days the residents here are facing a snow storm.
This city is completely cut off from the world, every city in the world where the population is one million or more, norlisk is located in the extreme north and despite the large area no road goes here. This city is 1800 miles away from Moscow and it is only possible to reach here by plane or boat and it is so different from the rest of the world that residents of here often call Russia mainland.
public transport, cafes, art galleries, a big cinema and other modern facilities, while new people are constantly coming to live here, which is a good income. There are many precious metals and their miners' income is also very good.

The town where people endure -50 C - BBC News
The industrial Russian city of Norilsk, sitting on the permafrost above the Arctic Circle, is the seventh most polluted city in the world. Rich deposits of nickel, copper and palladium provide mining and smelting industries that create jobs and continue to draw people to the harsh landscape from other regions of Russia. Elena Chernyshova's stark and beautiful photographs of life in the city are featuring in a new exhibition, Days of Night - Nights of Day at the Half King in New York City. She spoke to Dan Damon.

The Trans-Siberian Railway:
The Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR, Russian: Транссиби́рская магистра́ль, tr. Transsibirskaya Magistral; IPA: is a network of railways connecting Moscow with the Russian Far East. With a length of 9,289 kilometres (5,772 miles), it is the longest railway line in the world. There are connecting branch lines into Mongolia, China and North Korea. It has connected Moscow with Vladivostok since 1916, and is still being expanded.
It was built between 1891 and 1916 under the supervision of Russian government ministers personally appointed by Tsar Alexander III and his son, the Tsarevich Nicholas (later Tsar Nicholas II). Even before it had been completed, it attracted travellers who wrote of their adventures.
The Trans-Siberian line remains the most important transport link within Russia; around 30% of Russian exports travel on the line. While it attracts many foreign tourists, it gets most of its use from domestic passengers.
Today the Trans-Siberian Railway carries about 200,000 containers per year to Europe. Russian Railways intends to at least double the volume of container traffic on the Trans-Siberian and is developing a fleet of specialised cars and increasing terminal capacity at the ports by a factor of 3 to 4. By 2010, the volume of traffic between Russia and China could reach 60 million tons (54 million tonnes), most of which will go by the Trans-Siberian.
With perfect coordination of the participating countries' railway authorities, a trainload of containers can be taken from Beijing to Hamburg, via the Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Siberian lines in as little as 15 days, but typical cargo transit times are usually significantly longer and typical cargo transit time from Japan to major destinations in European Russia was reported as around 25 days.
According to a 2009 report, the best travel times for cargo block trains from Russia's Pacific ports to the western border (of Russia, or perhaps of Belarus) were around 12 days, with trains making around 900 km (559 mi) per day, at a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). However, in early 2009, Russian Railways announced an ambitious Trans-Siberian in Seven Days programme; according to this plan, $11 billion will be invested over the next five years to make it possible for goods traffic to cover the same 9,000 km (5,592 mi) distance in just seven days. The plan will involve increasing the cargo trains' speed to 90 km/h (56 mph) in 2010–12, and, at least on some sections, to 100 km/h (62 mph) by 2015. At these speeds, goods trains will be able to cover 1,500 km (932 mi) per day.

about
Note: The physical copy of this album also includes a Mylene Farmer cover song, Tomber 7 fois which is not available on the digital album.
Coming off the heels of their latest full-length album “Le passage des glaciers”, this fall the Canadian Death-Doom act Norilsk returns with a collection of new material linked in concept with its previous full-length while also showcasing Norilsk’s more collaborative and multi-faceted nature. It retains the band's signature sound developed on its two full-length albums, and brings forward further openness to an array of doom-related influences.
The new mini-album, entitled “Weepers of the Land” is made up of four new compositions as well as a Mylene Farmer cover song (Tomber 7 fois), previously released in Russia on a limited edition compilation CD, and completely remixed. The new compositions include collaborations with other Canadian musicians including Damian Smith (Altars of Grief), Joshua Cayer (Longhouse), Ben Forte (North East Bistro, TGRE), and long-time collaborator Mort Marion (Outrage AD, Blood Moon Knights).
“Weepers of the Land” should be viewed as a companion album to “Le passage des glaciers” as the songs were written and recorded during the same time period. The album will be presented in a 4 panel digipack with artwork from William Blair Bruce (1859-1906) and released worldwide on October 12, 2018.

Polar bear found hundreds of miles from home in Russian industrial city
Residents of Norilsk in northern Siberia have been stunned by the sight of a starving polar bear hundreds of miles from its natural Arctic habitat. People captured footage of the bear as it searched a garbage dump for food. The climate crisis has been damaging polar bears’ sea-ice habitats and forced them to scavenge more for food on land, bringing them into contact with humans and inhabited areas

Best Of Russia was founded by WINZAVOD, Centre for Contemporary Arts, in 2008.
WINZAVOD is the place with more than 200 years history. It used to be the winemaking enterprise back in 19th century, owned by Alexey Khludov, one of the richest people of Russia in those days.
But nowadays this is one of the most cultural places in Moscow. An old manufactories for winemaking now used as a territory for all kinds of contemporary arts of contemporary artists.
The WINZAVOD mission is to support contemporary art and artists, to introduce contemporary art to the widest possible audience, and to make art an integral part of contemporary life.
As the first and still only one independent English-language channel about daily life in Russia, we have been invited for Best Of Russia photo exhibition.
It is definitely another great view on the real life in today's Russia made in photographs with No Fake and No Bullshit.

RUSSIA: MOSCOW: EXHIBITION OF CLOSED CITIES
Russian/Nat
Years after the fall of communism, the former Soviet Union is continuing to yield its once most closely guarded secrets.
Cities whose very existence was for years concealed are for the first time openly displaying the results of their work for the former regime's military programme.
They were at the heart of the Soviet Union's defence industry - cities like Chelyabinsk- seventy and Penza-nineteen.
For years out of bounds to outsiders, these former 'closed cities' have had to face up to the harsh reality of the post-Communist world.
Previously hushed-up their very existence has come to depend on people - and businesses - knowing about them.
Now an exhibition in Moscow - opened by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Sergei Shakhrai - is helping them get the word out.
Key defence industry enterprises from these former secret cities have had an open house in the Russian capital, displaying lines of civilian products ranging from wooden bears to kitchen utensils.
In the past workers in the defence sector enjoyed higher wages and received rations of meat, fresh fruits and vegetables when the rest of the Soviet population went hungry.
But the opening up of Russian society and the disarmament that followed the Cold War put an end to the privileges.
Now, following free market reforms, many of the state owned companies are finding it extremely hard to adapt themselves to new conditions.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
The most difficult thing is not conversion of production, but conversion of mentality. The cities lived in exceptional conditions and it is now extremely difficult to grasp that the state can only guarantee a minimum and the rest they should earn by themselves.
SUPER CAPTION: Vladimir Shchukin, Mayor Snezhinsk (formerly Chelyabinsk-70)
These former privileged cities are feeling the pinch following a sharp drop in orders from the military sector.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
Only 30 per cent of our orders are military now. The enterprise used to produce securities systems, guarding nearly 70 per cent of the Soviet Union's borders.
SUPER CAPTION: Vladimir Skripkin, Marketing Director, Start plant
Low wages have forced many workers to leave for jobs in the private sector, but judging by the interest in the Moscow exhibition the future of Chelyabinsk-seventy and Penza- nineteen looks safe.

The mining town of Norilsk sits in the heart of the Siberian Arctic, bathed in the billowing smoke and sulphur of its mills and factories. Built by Gulag prisoners under Stalin, Norilsk remains a mysterious place, haunted by its past suffering. While miners ponder lost comradeship and teenagers dream of escape, artists and descendants of the Gulag prisoners seek to shed light on Norilsk’s dark past, long since buried under the Siberian ice.
