Seaside Wildflowers - A Fine Art Linocut Tutorial
The centrepiece artwork for Lynette Weir's exhibition at the Northern Rivers Art Gallery - Seaside Wildflowers - Limited Edition Handcoloured Linocut.
It is inspired by the wildflowers that can be most commonly seen around the Australian Far North Coast seaside townships, (Yamba, Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head, Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores, Kingslcliff) especially of Ballina NSW.
This video shows the process from the inspiration, to the designing, drawing, carving, printing and handcolouring of a Fine Art Limited Edition Linocut print.

Byron Bay Travel Guide - An Australian Magical Experience
Byron Bay Travel Guide - An Australian Magical Experience
Byron Bay is a coastal town in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, located just off the Pacific Highway, approximately 800km north of Sydney and 175km south of Brisbane. Nearby Cape Byron is the easternmost point on the Australian mainland. Byron Bay is famed worldwide for its surfing beaches, scuba diving, whale watching, rural beauty and a laidback lifestyle. It is one of Australia's major tourist destinations, both for international and domestic tourists. Byron Bay and its surrounding area have a population of about 30,000. The area has experienced a dramatic increase in tourism now standing at more than 1.7 million visitors per year.
The community of Suffolk Park lies a five minute drive south of Byron, along Tallows Beach. It offers a quieter alternative to the heart of Byron, but for most services you will find yourself making the trip into Byron. The towns of Bangalow and Nimbin lie inland, under an hour's drive away. Lennox Head and Ballina are to the south. There are many thriving home-based businesses focussed on alternative, holistic, cultural and knowledge industries, with a growing population of artists, writers and film makers.
There is limited regular public transport within Byron Bay, operated by Blanch's Bus Company - however most destinations within the bay are walkable, including The Lighthouse Walk. The Byron Shire Council has installed parking ticket machines, with the fee being $2 per hour.
Byron Bay is a well established destination for backpackers, schoolies, families and couples, and there are choice of accommodation styles catering to all of them. Most local real estate agents handle holiday house rentals, and there are many in the beach areas, and even further into suburban Byron. Some bed-and-breakfasts have been created by building additions to once suburban Byron houses.
Festivals held in or near Byron Bay include the East Coast Blues & Roots Music Festival at Tyagarah at Easter, Falls Festival NYE and Splendour in the Grass, the Byron Bay International Fashion Festival on 29 April each year, the Byron Bay Writers Festival, the Byron Bay Film Festival, Byron Bay Surf Festival, Byron Spirit Festival and the Byron Underwater Festival. The Byron Bay Triathlon is held on the second Saturday in May every year; 1,300 competitors from many countries enter this Olympic Distance event. The vibrant musical community has produced internationally renowned bands such as Blue King Brown, Parkway Drive and 50 Lions.
The town is a resort popular with both domestic and international tourists, not the least backpackers. It has several beaches that are popular for surfing and the scenery attracts skydivers. An oceanway allows visitors to walk and cycle from the centre of town to Cape Byron Lighthouse.
The area is noted for its wildlife, with whale watching a significant contributor to the local economy. Temperate and tropical waters merge here, making it a popular place for scuba diving and snorkelling. Most diving is done at Julian Rocks, 2.5 kilometres from the town and part of the Cape Byron Marine Park. Subtropical rainforests are nearby, and areas such as the Nightcap National Park and its Minyon Falls are within easy reach of the town. Byron Bay is a popular destination for Schoolies week during late November and early December.

The Razor Gang, 1928 (filmed in Lismore, NSW) clip 1
This community film production was created in Lismore, NSW, adding to the celebrations surrounding the opening of the Memorial Baths and the Municipal Council Chambers (March 1928). The film contains numerous shots of local settings. The director was William Reed (husband of the Hollywood starlet Eva Novak no less). The presentation is credited to TJ Dorgan, proprietor of the Star Court theatre, and most of its actors are Northern Rivers locals. One month after filming the finished product was shown in the Star Court. Most likely this is the earliest film of Lismore. NFSA holds only the first 27 mins.
This clip shows the Freemasons Hotel (later the Canberra, then Tommy's Tavern). It then cuts to two pan shots of an audience inside the Star Court theatre.
Plot synopsis: The plot of this incomplete short fiction revolves around the adventures of a young man who, with his mother, migrates from England after his father's chemical company is no longer viable. He travels with his mother to Lismore, where his chemical background enables him to solve the problem of stunted bananas, which are afflicted with a condition termed `bunchy top'. He becomes the manager of the Lismore butter factory, courts the daughter of his mother's cousin, and works against the evil machinations of the local baddy, Gillette Jim, who is described as `a dirty blade who inherited his father's interest in Ned Kelly and company'.
