On 7 October 2008, Qantas Flight 72, an Airbus A330 suffers a pair of sudden uncommanded pitch-down manoeuvres during a flight from Singapore Changi Airport to Perth Airport. 119 of the 315 people on board are injured. The aircraft makes an emergency landing at Learmonth Airport near Exmouth, Western Australia.

While not sitting in a place where I could actually video Bruce Guthro, the audio is too good to ignore so I had to upload. This fantastic performance by Bruce took place at The Blue Olive, in Saint John, on October 4, 2008. He starts off with a tribute to Stan Rogers (Northwest Passage) which leads into an old sea shanty, Little Sally Racket. I miss The Blue Olive!

The Rugged North sees Jason Andrews and Simon Anderson heading out for another wild adventure starting in the remotest areas of Western Australia’s Kimberley region and spanning right across the Northern Territory and into Queensland's Gulf country. The 4WDs get a punishing as the guys tackle tracks that haven’t been travelled in years, and then the boys take to the water for some long distance runs off-shore and a heart-stopping ride through the treacherous Horizontal Waterfalls. There's plenty of fishing action, as well as spectacular scenery and fascinating history.

Another week exploring Mallorca with Sally on board. We find a bay called Sa Calabra which is absolutely out of this world beautiful with high cliffs, a tiny beach and clear blue sea so we ‘chillaxed’ on anchor, cooked on the bbq and drank g&t’s. Heaven.
We decided we wanted to head for Corsica via Minorca and as Sally was still on school holidays she stayed for the trip and helped out on night watch with Hayley. Then they slept thru most of their day watches... luckily I always have it covered. ????
On route to Corsica we actually changed our minds and sailed to Sardinia but that’s the beauty of living at sea... we are free to go wherever the wind blows.
Please check out our new website, we’ve built it ourselves with no expertise at all so please be patient as it’s a work in progress but we have lots planned for it.

Discoveries on the PNW BEACH
We went to grandpas cabin at Hood Canal for a super low tide. We found starfish, jellyfish and even some eels. Another perfect PNW day filled with family and fun! So many oysters!

1997 FROM Norfolk Island (Norfuk: Norfuk Ailen) is a small inhabited island in the Pacific Ocean located between Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia, and along with two neighbouring islands forms one of Australia's external territories. The Norfolk Island pine, a symbol of the island pictured in its flag, is a striking evergreen tree endemic to the island and is quite popular in Australia, where two related species also groW. Geography Norfolk Island is located in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Australia. Norfolk Island is the main island of the island group the territory encompasses and is located at 29°02′S 167°57′E. It has an area of 34.6 km² (13.3 mi²), with no large-scale internal bodies of water but 32 km of coastline. The island's highest point is Mt. Bates (319 m above sea level), located in the northwest quadrant of the island. The majority of the terrain is suitable for farming and other agricultural uses. Philip Island, the second largest island of the territory, is located at 29°07′S 167°57′E, several kilometres south of the main island. The coastline of Norfolk Island consists, to varying degrees, of cliff faces. A downward slope exists towards Sydney Bay and Emily Bay, the site of the original colonial settlement of Kingston. There are no safe harbour facilities on Norfolk Island, with loading jetties existing at Kingston and Cascade Bay. All goods not domestically produced are brought in by ship, usually to Cascade Bay. Emily Bay, protected from the Pacific Ocean by a small coral reef, is the only safe area for recreational swimming, although surfing waves can sometimes be found in Ball Bay. The climate is subtropical and mild, with little seasonal differentiation. The island is a volcanic formation with mostly rolling plains. The area surrounding Mt. Bates is preserved as the Norfolk Island National Park. The park, covering around 10% of the land of the island, contains remnants of the forests which originally covered the island, including stands of subtropical rainforest. The park also includes the two smaller islands to the south of Norfolk Island, Nepean Island and Philip Island. The major settlement on the Island is Burnt Pine, located predominantly along Taylor's Road.«

The Maritime history of the United Kingdom involves events including shipping, ports, navigation, and seamen, as well as marine sciences, exploration, trade, and maritime themes in the arts from the creation of the kingdom of Great Britain as a united, sovereign state, on 1 May 1707 in accordance with the Treaty of Union, signed on 22 July 1706. Until the advent of air transport and the creation of the Channel Tunnel, marine transport was the only way of reaching the British Isles. For this reason, maritime trade and naval power have always had great importance.
Prior to the Acts of Union, 1707, the maritime history of the British Isles was largely dominated by that of England. (See Maritime history of England for more details.)

Broken Dreams and Life-Giving Miracles (with Brett Swayn)
Brett Swayn is a co-founder of The Cookery in Nashville, a culinary training facility that teaches skills and restores the lives of homeless and transitional students.
He had been homeless, broken ‘by his brokenness,’ and had himself felt utter desolation. He knows what a miracle feels like.
In this episode we talk about how his turning point shifted him from chasing a dream to satisfy the person he thought he was, and into a much more purposeful life of helping others and providing healing in their lives.

The Royal Navy (RN) is the United Kingdom's naval warfare force. Although warships were used by the English kings from the early medieval period, the first major maritime engagements were fought in the Hundred Years War against the Kingdom of France. The modern Royal Navy traces its origins to the early 16th century; the oldest of the UK's armed services, it is known as the Senior Service.
From the middle decades of the 17th century, and through the 18th century, the Royal Navy vied with the Dutch Navy and later with the French Navy for maritime supremacy. From the mid 18th century, it was the world's most powerful navy until surpassed by the United States Navy during the Second World War. The Royal Navy played a key part in establishing the British Empire as the unmatched world power during the 19th and first part of the 20th centuries. Due to this historical prominence, it is common, even among non-Britons, to refer to it as the Royal Navy without qualification.
Following World War I, the Royal Navy was significantly reduced in size, although at the onset of World War II it was still the world's largest. By the end of the war, however, the United States Navy had emerged as the world's largest. During the Cold War, the Royal Navy transformed into a primarily anti-submarine force, hunting for Soviet submarines and mostly active in the GIUK gap. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, its focus has returned to expeditionary operations around the world and remains one of the world's foremost blue-water navies. However, twenty-first century reductions in naval spending have led to a personnel shortage and a reduction in the number of warships.The Royal Navy maintains a fleet of technologically sophisticated ships and submarines including two aircraft carriers, two amphibious transport docks, four ballistic missile submarines (which maintain the UK's nuclear deterrent), six nuclear fleet submarines, six guided missile destroyers, 13 frigates, 13 mine-countermeasure vessels and 23 patrol vessels. As of November 2018, there are 75 commissioned ships (including submarines) in the Royal Navy, plus 11 ships of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA); there are also five Merchant Navy ships available to the RFA under a private finance initiative. The RFA replenishes Royal Navy warships at sea, and augments the Royal Navy's amphibious warfare capabilities through its three Bay-class landing ship vessels. It also works as a force multiplier for the Royal Navy, often doing patrols that frigates used to do. The total displacement of the Royal Navy is approximately 408,750 tonnes (706,759 tonnes including the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Royal Marines).
The Royal Navy is part of Her Majesty's Naval Service, which also includes the Royal Marines. The professional head of the Naval Service is the First Sea Lord who is an admiral and member of the Defence Council of the United Kingdom. The Defence Council delegates management of the Naval Service to the Admiralty Board, chaired by the Secretary of State for Defence. The Royal Navy operates three bases in the United Kingdom where commissioned ships are based; Portsmouth, Clyde and Devonport, the last being the largest operational naval base in Western Europe.
