Alaska Mendenhall Glacier Nugget Falls | Juneau
We have been two times to the Beautiful Mendenhall Glacier, in the year 2010 and 2012 , we took the City bus from downtown Juneau, and the City bus stops 1 1/4 miles from the visitor center.
Trip to Juneau Nuggets Fall Alaska
Nugget Falls, also known as Nugget Creek Falls or Mendenhall Glacier Falls, is a waterfall downstream of the Nugget Glacier, in the U.S. state of Alaska.
Formed by the creek from the Nugget Glacier, the waterfall drops 377 feet (115 m) in two tiers of 99 feet (30 m) and 278 feet (85 m) onto a sandbar in Mendenhall Lake, which is the freshwater pool at the face of the Mendenhall glacier.
The lake then drains via Mendenhall River into the Inside Passage. The waterfall is fed by Nugget Creek, which is in turn fed by the Nugget Glacier, a tributary glacier on the mountainside east of Auke Bay.
The creek cascades down towards Mendenhall Lake, forming a hanging valley, then plunges over the falls to the lake.
Prior to the recession of Mendenhall Glacier, it was said that the falls would drop directly on the glacier,or that the glacier covered the waterfall.

After some heavy rainfall here in Juneau, Alaska. I decided to go and see how Nugget Falls was fairing. Nugget Falls is located near the Mendenhall Glacier. A friend held my phone while I walked right up to the bottom of the falls.

[VLOG 46] Alaska Day 09 Part II - Juneau - Mendenhall Glacier - Nugget Falls - Tracy's Crab Shack
For our 10th anniversary my wife and I finally made the decision to do that Alaska trip we always dreamed of. We took a smaller cruise that focused on doing more than eating and shopping, every day we'd go out of the boat and explore the wild with experts. We came back with an increased love for the planet, inspired to learn more about biology and geology, and to explore our home state of Colorado even further.
Juneau- True alaskan beauty! Whales, bears, nugget falls, mendenhall glacier, seaplane ride and more
Enjoy this beautiful seaplane view from 1400ft over the misty fjords of Alaska . The summer is exciting here.. Several cruise ships like carnival cruise, Norwegian Cruise line, royal Caribbean cruises , Disney cruises , princess cruises etc move some ships from may till September every year to Alaska and take millions of tourists to cruise the inside passage!! Alaska offers many Tours and packages. The ships leave from Seattle and goto Vancouver. Most of them stop in Ketchikan, Skagway and Juneau in Alaska. Some stop in Haines too. Ketchikan is the first city of Alaska. Popular for the totem poles. Great place to go bear watching. And also take a seaplane ride over the misty fjords. Skagway is great for the train ride through the valley to Canada and back. It's the town where the gold rush took place and has a lot of historical significance. Don't miss the famous red onion salon and the Broadway show there. Juneau is the most popular for Whale watching Tours. You are assured to see humpback and may also bump into a pod of orcas or killer whales as they're called. The Mendenhall glacier is just 15mins from downtown. You can also take a helicopter ride to one of the glaciers and they also have a dog sledging tour.

Mendenhall Glacier Tour & Hiking - Beautiful Nuggets Falls Waterfall & Photo Point Trail (4K)
The highlight of Juneau Alaska was the amazing Mendenhall Glacier & hiking trails. We took the short trek to the Photo Point trail, and then it was a 25 minute or so hike to the incredible Nuggets Falls waterfall. The ambiance of being next to a powerful waterfall was pretty exhilarating, and yet zen as well when we were a bit farther way. The sound of the waterfall became a tranquil presence. We also enjoyed views of the calm, icy glacial waters of Mendenhall Lake.
The Nugget Falls trails was pretty interesting itself and made us feel a bit like explorers. There was a warning about bears, but thankfully we didn't encounter one. We saw a plaque for Romeo the Friendly Black Wolf. I researched his story and it was pretty touching, so it was nice to see the wolf remembered in such a way.
We also made a video of the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's center which you can see here:

Hiking in Juneau, Alaska - The Perseverance and Glacier Trails
OK! I apologize for some of the errors made in my narrative (and thanks for pointing them out):
1. There are no wolves or grizzly bears in the Juneau Borough
2. It's pronounced Tun-guss, not Tun-gasss
3. The water run-off at Nugget Falls and the West Glacier trail is not the result of the Mendenhall Glacier
4. The trail leading to Nugget Falls is Nugget Trail not the East Glacier Trail.
pointing out any other errors is appreciated!!
Views here of downtown Juneau, the Perseverance Trail high above downtown Juneau, the East Glacier Trail to Nugget Falls, the West Glacier Trail to the Mendenhall Glacier, and a ferry ride thru the Icy Strait to Angoon on Admiralty Island and finally to the port of Sitka. I would rate this as the best hiking place I've ever visited!

A view of Nugget Falls with Mendenhall Glacier and Mendenhall Lake in Juneau, AK

On our port day in Juneau, we explored the ruins of the Treadwell Gold Mine on Douglas Island and then went to Mendenhall Glacier where we walked the trail to Nugget Falls...all in the rain.
