Walk to the Atlantic Coast, along the Finisterre Way or Camino de Fisterra to the ‘End or Edge of the World’! The quiet Finisterre Way of the Camino de Santiago is the only route starting in Santiago. This unique Camino passes quiet villages, remote farmland and unspoiled landscapes; finally reaching the sea cliffs of the westernmost point in Spain, at Cape Fisterra (Finisterre in Spanish). After Fisterra, the trail follows the stunning craggy coastline of Atlantic Galicia to the fishing village of Muxía. This beautiful region of Galicia is known as the ‘Coast of Death’ and Fisterra (Finis Terrae) was once considered to be the end of the world! Watch a video of the Finisterre route to Muxia here! It is a land full of fascinating traditions, delicious seafood and spectacular scenery.

The Lighthouse Way or Camino dos Faros is a superb coastal walking trail, taking in the wild and rugged beauty of the Costa da Morte, in the Atlantic coast of Galicia. Spectacular ocean views, pristine sandy beaches, impressive cliffs and a rich cultural and archaeological heritage await walkers on this trail that takes its name from the many lighthouses scattered in capes and headlands across the region. The ocean has been the main livelihood in the area for centuries, and fish and seafood fans will be in food heaven. Staying in quaint fishing villages, you will get the chance to sample the freshest treats from the sea. Ponteceso, for instance, is famous for its gooseneck barnacles (percebes), harvested from exposed sea cliffs by intrepid ‘percebeiros’.
This breath taking coastal route is marked with green arrows by a local association, as this is not a Camino de Santiago trail. However, the green arrows will take you all the way to Cape Fisterra, the very end of the Camino and the end of the world! You should be able to get your Muxiana (in Muxia) and Finisterrana (in Fisterra) certificates along the way, in the local tourist office.

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Cabo Finisterre
Cape Finisterre is a rock-bound peninsula on the west coast of Galicia, Spain. In Roman times it was believed to be the end of the known world. The name Finisterre, like that of Finistère in France, derives from the Latin finis terrae, meaning end of the earth.
Cabo Finisterre is sometimes said to be the westernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. However, Cabo da Roca in Portugal is about 16.5 kilometres (10.3 mi) further west and thus the westernmost point of continental Europe. Even in Spain Cabo Touriñán is farther west.
Monte Facho is the name of the mountain on Cape Finisterre, which has a peak that is 238 metres (781 ft) above sea level. A prominent lighthouse is at the top of Monte Facho. The seaside town of Fisterra is nearby. The Artabri were an ancient Gallaecian Celtic tribe that once inhabited the area.
Cape Finisterre has some spectacular beaches, including O Rostro, Arnela, Mar de Fora, Langosteira, Riveira, and Corbeiro. Many of the beaches are framed by steep cliffs leading down to the Mare Tenebrosum (or dark sea, the name of the Atlantic in the Middle Ages).
There are several rocks in this area associated with religious legends, such as the holy stones, the stained wine stones, the stone chair, and the tomb of the Celtic crone-goddess Orcabella.
Cape Finisterre is the final destination for many pilgrims on the Way of St. James, the pilgrimage to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Cape Finisterre is about a 90-km walk from Santiago de Compostela. It is a recent tradition for pilgrims to burn their clothes or boots at the end of their journey at Cape Finisterre.
