Old Wentworth Gaol, Wentworth Australia ( Full version )
For a small entry fee you can walk through the Old Wentworth Gaol and into the cells. The walls of the cells were thick, the windows small which gives you a very claustrophobic feeling.
There are historical photos and bits and pieces to see as you walk through the kitchen, male cells, female cells, hospital area and workshop.
The small single storey brick gaol with bluestone trim was designed by colonial architect James Barnet and built between 1879 and 1881. The bricks were made on-site from the local clay and the bluestone was transported from Malmsbury, Victoria.
The Goal closed in 1928. Wentworth Gaol was temporarily re-used in 1962 when there were riots in Mildura.

Wentworth Visitation is a 2013 sound installation by South Australian sound artist, Tristan Louth-Robins. For Wentworth Visitation composed sounds from the Old Wentworth Gaol space and the wider Wentworth area (Murray/Darling River confluence, Perry Sandhills) are broadcast through loudspeakers into a large gaol cell, evoking a visitation of the natural world experienced by former inmates of the gaol.
Wentworth Visitation was commissioned by the Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival. Artback Australia is the key project partner.

Old Wentworth Gaol built between 1879 and 1881, The Old Wentworth Gaol is the first Australia-designed gaol. - its an old jail they have a photograph taken by a visitor to the jail on a tour that has an unexplainable white haze in it that wasnt there when the picture was taken. It appears to be one or two white figures. This jail is a very old jail. Undoubtedly haunted. Some visitors have even claimed to hear voices. Unwelcoming feelings felt while being there.

A small selection of photos taken at the old Wentworth Gaol in Wentworth, New Soiuth Wales which operated between 1881 and 1927. It's hard to get my head around the fact that many of the females inmates at the time were incarcerated for working with the Salvation Army.
