Olorgesailie Prehistoric Site 19 November 2017
A day out of Nairobi to Olorgesailie prehistoric site for bird watching.
If you want to know how our ancestors lived 1.2 million years ago, all you got to do is follow the happenings at Olorgesailie prehistoric site, for it is the best dated prehistoric site in the world for that period. The 300-square-kilometer site lying in the Great Rift Valley, an hour’s drive south of Nairobi, has an in-situ museum with prehistoric hand axes and of sites like the butchery, which was the scene of a hunting expedition executed by the Homo erectus.
Magadi Chronicles part 1 - Esnorua Chapter
Routine stop by my version of the Kenyan Grand Canyon, always a scenic place to take a break after all that rough, ballbursting tarmac. Too bad there wasn't a goat path or footpath down to the river to take the bikes. Maybe on a lighter bike it would be possible? I'll def add that to my bucket list!
Magadi Chronicles part 3 - Ol Donyo Nyokie chapter
Ascending into the hills, then circumventing the seasonal rivers. I kept Riding hard and this whiteboy is keeping up! Impressive, bloody impressive!!
It had been a while since I had someone older than me keep up especially in that blistering heat.

Olesekut Hike by Kenya Outdoors
Situated in the South Rift Valley about 60km from Nairobi, the Olesekut summit on Oloroka mountain range offers a moderately easy day hike through Maasai country that takes about 3-6 hours to complete.
After starting at the plains near Ole Sayeti, the trail skirts to the left of this little hill, then cuts across another plain to get to the base of Olesekut. It then winds its way up onto oloroka ridges that present spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, including the distant Ngong Hills.
From here on, the trail levels off at a high elevation and follows a ridge top with stunning V-shaped gullies running off to the sides, and breathtaking sheer cliff drops. At the head of one of these side valleys is Kitalo Cave, a refuge for Maasai Morans during their period of living in the wild, following their circumcision. Save for the few herds of Maasai livestock you encounter grazing on the lower hill slopes, Olesekut is delightfully isolated from civilization, and from its summit you get magnificent views of both Ngong Hills and Mt Olorgesailie. It makes for a truly refreshing day hike from Nairobi.
Olorgesailie
Early humans lived in the Olorgesailie region, in what is now the southern Kenya, between 1.2 million and 490,000 years ago. Excavations at Olorgesailie show the habitats and animals these early humans encountered, the handaxe tools they made, and the climate challenges they met.
Olorgesailie is a sedimentary basin located in southern Kenya in the East African Rift Valley. It has been excavated for many years and contains many artifacts that have accumulated over a long time period
