Omokoroa Region Profile - New Zealand Tourism
Omokoroa is a small urban area in the Western Bay of Plenty District of New Zealand. The suburb is considered part of Greater Tauranga, (contributing towards its population of 120,000), but is actually within the Coromandel Electorate. Omokoroa started off as a small rural holiday village, but has recently expanded to a commuter town, with a 15 minute drive to Tauranga City This method of building roads before the people, not for the people, is a pioneering concept which is designed to dictate special growth areas. Omokoroa is expected to reach a population of 12,500 by 2020, and is the largest town in Kaimai Ward, WBOPDC.
Omokoroa includes the urban area on the harbour side of State Highway 2, along with Youngson Road to Plummers Point Road, and parts of Old Highway Road.

We took the opportunity while on the Bay of Plenty coast to visit the hot pools at Omokoroa and Athenree, both of which, though small, are a good temperature.
I think most overseas visitors concentrate on the hot pools at Taupo and Rotorua, but there are quite a few more hot spots near the coast. Even after four visits there we haven't seen them all.
Metal detecting finds are shown at the end of the video.

Lyle McMahon, a reporter/interviewer from Stuff.co.nz came from Auckland on Sunday 19th February 2012 to interview some of the Cantabrians who have had to move away from Christchurch. These interviews will be appearing on stuff.co.nz in the next few days.

Note:
Summer of 2016
Destination - Tauranga and Rotorua
Activities:
Waimarino Water Adventure Park - lots of water activities. The water looks dirty but it's not lol. I guess that's the color because of the moss growing underneathe? It's really deep as well so it's quite scary swimming in it
Adventure playground (quad bike) - Best ever! Definitely worth every penny spent. I'd suggest go there when it's raining or just after the rain so that you'll have the most fun riding it
Adrenalin Forest (not included as it features heights and obstacles, hard to film but exciting experience!)
Mt Manganui Hike - tiring, but worth it!
McLaren Falls - A little side trip. Lots of people visit here during summer and jump off the bridge (though technically you're not allowed). Find a quiet spot to have your very own pool. I think you can also camp here*
..... Thermal spa - Unplanned. I've forgotten the name of the this place but it's somwhere between Rotorua and Taupo (about 40 mins away from Rotorua) will add it in if remembered
