San Diego Air & Space Museum - Balboa Park
The San Diego Air & Space Museum
Aviation history is truly a remarkable story, and it all unfolds at the San Diego Air & Space Museum. Your journey through the history of flight begins as you stand beneath a model of the Montgolfier brothers' hot air balloon of 1783 - the first manned vehicle in recorded history to break the bonds of gravity and lift humans above the Earth.
Rare specimens of aircraft suggest the excitement of air combat in the World War I Gallery. Marvel at the entertaining and dangerous antics of the barnstormers of the 1920s in the Golden Age of Flight Gallery.
Mint condition aircraft in a mint condition museum - a Spitfire Mk. XVI, a Navy F6F Hellcat and an A-4 Skyhawk jet - these beautifully restored airplanes help you appreciate the increasingly complex technology represented in the classic military aircraft of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
The Museum's display of space age technology, like the desire to journey to the stars, may never be finished, for it represents an adventure which the human race has truly just begun.

The Artrepreneur | Laurence Nemeh | TEDxDuke
Smartphones have killed the artist. Rising out of the 21st century highspeed information landscape is the latest evolution of the artist, the “Artrepreneur.” It is not enough to be an artist anymore. We must also be our own brand managers, development teams, and accountants. To this end, Arts Entrepreneurship is a cutting edge discipline at the crossroads of art, business, and innovation that uses entrepreneurial disciplines from technological industries as the new energy driving art. It’s about having an idea, and learning to take calculated risks, measure feedback, and shape the ongoing course to bring that idea to life. In doing so, we are breaking this dichotomy that students are either a “consultant” or a “starving artist.” We are giving artists the tools to create meaningful, viable careers. We are revolutionizing the artist.
Lawrence Nemeh is a senior double majoring in political science and Middle Eastern studies with a minor in theater studies. A selfdescribed “foreign policy nerd, SNL fan girl and a passionate Blue Devil from Scottsdale, Arizona,” Lawrence is currently interning at the Duke Office of News and Communications and the Undergraduate Admissions Office. He is the co-president of Duke University Improv (DUI), a council member of American Grand Strategy (AGS), and volunteers with local Arab refugees with Church World Service. He participated in the Duke in Chicago Arts Entrepreneurship program last summer, interning at iO (formerly known as improvOlympic) and taking improvisation classes at The Second City. Upon graduation, Lawrence hopes to continue his arts entrepreneurship initiatives and move back to the Windy City.

I employ vigorous brushwork and texture through the palette knife in my work so that people may experience along with me the feel of the painting. I find mosaics fascinating how the individual pieces all contribute to the whole- I want my paintings to have a similar idea where overlapping petals of paint all stand on their own and then contribute to the total.
My work known as Daubism is created using a palette knife where each stroke of color is isolated from the others. Most paintings will have hundreds of different colors, these colors are all individually hand-mixed from a limited set of colors creating unique colors which relate to one another. I am striving for a sensual, tactile surface in paint.
I am always excited when someone connects with my artwork- I am delighted to share a vision of color and beauty with my collectors- Dena Tollefson
Dena Tollefson is an American artist whose bold contemporary paintings focus on joyful use of color, texture and movement, creating a low relief effect in paint- a hybrid between low relief sculpture, mosaic, and traditional painting.
Dena Tollefson (nee Dena Schaefer), born 1965, is a full-time, professional artist. Tollefson graduated from Iowa State University in 1988 and lived in Dallas Texas before returning to Iowa in 1991 where she developed her unique, highly textured painting style. She lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her husband and family.
Tollefson is represented in galleries nationally in New Mexico, California, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.
Her Daubism body of work is a unique process she developed, where daubs of individually mixed paint are applied with a palette knife. The largest daubs are applied with a serving spoon, allowing ridges of paint which catch the light and appear to dance and scintillate as the viewer moves past the painting. Tollefson’s work focuses on botanicals, ponds, skies, and her Corn Series of work, biographies where people are depicted as ears of corn. Her work is highly tactile.

Jacqueline's Pond Part 2 of 2 ASMR Daubism Oil Painting Demonstration Spoken Voice Slowly Painted
I hope you will find this ASMR painting demonstration with lots of art sounds relaxing.
Today I am working on a new Pond Series painting titled Jacqueline's Pond commissioned by Jackie and Syl Amos for their Florida home. This painting is oil on canvas and is 24x36 to be framed with a solid wood, gold leaf frame. Jackie and Syl Amos requested peach colored lily flowers with natural greens and many shades of blue, especially dark blue.
This video is Part 2 of 2 where I am applying paint texture with palette knives and spoons. Be sure to watch Part 1 of Jacqueline's Pond to see the painting go from a blank white canvas to a completed full color underpainting in oil paint. The completed and dried underpainting is transformed through the addition of texture in my signature Daubism oil painting technique using spoons and palette knives.

This helps me obtain a roof for my studio and create an indoor working/teaching space and the cataract surgery I need.
I create a ring pour in a measuring cup with a pour spout making pouring rings easy. I layer after layer of gold silver black and pearl until the cop is 3/4 full . I use a 14x14 canvas and add a layer of white paint to allow the paint I add next to the canvas to tip the canvas to flow and spread the pattern in ways that please's me. I create nine rings on the canvas, close to each other. I fill the small gaps between with one of the colors I have already used. I tip the canvas to spread the rings and allow patterns to form. I stop paint from flowing over the edge with a piece of stiff plastic and pool the flowing paint against it. I then level the canvas and tip the pooled paint back onto the canvas changing the pattern...I use a small silicone spatula to spread paint from my squeeze bottle to fill any gaps left when I decide I had tipped to my satisfaction.
My pouring mixture or recipe is simple- 10-20% Golden Gac 800 goes into 80 or 90% color to start the mixing process. Mix thoroughly. I add Floetrol,( minimum)enough to double the volume. You could use a more expensive alternative. I like Deco Art pouring medium. If you use squeeze bottles as I do, add a marble and shake your paints every time before you use them. All my acrylic paints are mixed in advance and contained and stored in squeeze bottles. I add no silicon. To create the pearlescent effects seen in most of my artworks I use Golden's Iridescent pearl Fine added to colors. By eye until I am pleased with what I see. Every day I learn new things. I will never stop experimenting and I am happy to share what I discover with you.
