Český Krumlov - Czech Republic - Repubblica Ceca - 2011
Visita a Cesky Krumlov bellissima cittadina della Repubblica Ceca patrimonio dell'umanità UNESCO.
Cesky Krumlov is a small city in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, best known for the fine architecture and art of the historic old town and Český Krumlov Castle. Old Český Krumlov is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was given this status along with the historic Prague castle district.
The city is named Český Krumlov (Bohemian Krumlov) to differentiate it from Moravský Krumlov (Moravian Krumlov) in the southeast of the country.
History
Construction of the town and castle began in the late 13th century at a ford in the Vltava River, which was important in trade routes in Bohemia. In 1302 the town and castle were owned by the House of Rosenberg. Emperor Rudolf II bought Krumlov in 1602 and gave it to his natural son Julius d'Austria. Emperor Ferdinand II gave Krumlov to the House of Eggenberg. From 1719 until 1945 the castle belonged to the House of Schwarzenberg. Most of the architecture of the old town and castle dates from the 14th through 17th centuries; the town's structures are mostly in Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. The core of the old town is within a horseshoe bend of the river, with the old Latrán neighborhood and castle on the other side of the Vltava.
Český Krumlov Castle is unusually large for a town of Krumlov's size; within the Czech Republic it is second in extent only to the Hradčany castle complex of Prague. Inside its grounds are a large garden, an extensive bridge over a deep gap in the rock upon which the castle is built, and the castle itself, which in turn consists of many defined parts dating from different periods of time. After the garden was not adequately maintained during the second half of the 20th century, the site was included in the 1996 World Monuments Watch by the World Monuments Fund. With financial support from American Express the garden's central fountain was documented and reconstructed, and is functional today.
Church of St. Vitus (Kostel Sv. Víta) is a Gothic church dating back to the 15th century with frescoes from the same period.

Samson (HWV 57) is a three-act oratorio by Georg Friederich Händel, considered one of his finest dramatic works. It is usually performed as an oratorio in concert form, but on occasions has also been staged as an opera. The well-known arias Let the bright Seraphim (for soprano) and Total eclipse (for tenor) are often performed separately in concert.
Händel began the composition of Samson immediately after completing Messiah on 14 September 1741. It uses a libretto by Newburgh Hamilton, who based it on Milton's Samson Agonistes, which in turn was based on the figure Samson in Chapter 16 of the Book of Judges. Händel completed the first act on 20 September 1741, the second act on 11 October that year and the whole work on 29 October. Shortly after that he travelled to Dublin to put on the premiere of Messiah, returning to London at the end of August 1742 and thoroughly revising Samson.
The premiere was given at Covent Garden in London on 18 February 1743, with the incidental organ music probably the recently completed concerto in A major (HWV 307). The oratorio was a great success, leading to a total of seven performances in its first season, the most in a single season of any of his oratorios. Samson retained its popularity throughout Händel's lifetime and has never fallen entirely out of favor since

O Mio Babbino Caro (Oh my dear daddy) is a soprano aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi (1918) by Giacomo Puccini to a libretto by Giovacchino Forzano. It is sung by Lauretta after tensions between her father Schicchi and the family of Rinuccio, the boy she loves, have reached a breaking point that threatens to separate her from Rinuccio. It provides an interlude expressing lyrical simplicity and love in contrast with the atmosphere of hypocrisy, jealousy, double-dealing, and feuding in medieval Florence.
The aria was first performed at the premiere of Gianni Schicchi on 14 December 1918 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York by the popular Edwardian English soprano Florence Easton.
The aria is frequently performed in concerts and as an encore in recitals by many popular and crossover singers. It is used in several films, and some bands cover the aria in their own style. (Source: Wikipedia)

Ludovice Ensemble - Fandango & Folias by Pedro Lopes Nogueira (c1700-c1770)
Some years ago, in 2013, Ludovice Ensemble presented a programme of Portuguese chamber music named ROMA LUSITANA - LISBONA ROMANA in Prague Baroque Festival (Czech Republic). This recording was made while in Lisbon, during one of the rehearsals.
It was a warm Summer night, windows were open, the cicadas singing outside, a couple of friends listening, and we felt so free and so inspired that it was more like an improvised jam session then a real rehearsal...
The music by Pedro Lopes Nogueira is very simple - although his violin method reveals a very virtuosic approach to the violin technique. He was born around 1700 in Tavira (Algarve, Portugal) and was still alive in 1770 in Coimbra (Central Portugal). Originally a cobbler, he was active as a musician mainly in Lisbon, were he befriended the Genoese- Portuguese Avondano family - Pietro Giorgio and Pedro António were two excellent violin players at the Royal Orchestra. Nogueira was never part of such a prestigious ensemble, but he left us a very important collection with hundreds of violin exercises, together with 24 pairs of pieces in all the tonalities for unaccompanied violin, and 13 short pieces for violin and continuo. Here we perform number 11 - which we agreed it's some kind of Minueto Afandangado [a Minuet in Fandango style, an Iberian folk dance already very popular in that time] and number 9 - some variations on the Folia tune, originally also a Portuguese folk dance. In between, some lovely and very tasteful improvisations by our excellent guitar player.
Please forgive us the sound quality - it's made with a small recording device, placed on the floor, and without any editing, so you can listen to all kind of noises and a few imprecisions... for us, the most important is that this recording captures the spirit of Ludovice Ensemble, our pleasure making music together. And, with it, we also rescue from oblivion the work of one more unfairly ignored Portuguese composer!
We hope you will enjoy it!
Ludovice Ensemble:
Luca Giardini, baroque violin
Diana Vinagre, baroque cello
Josep Maria Martí Durán, baroque guitar
Fernando Miguel Jalôto, harpsichord
The images are taken from our concert in Prague, from the original manuscript kept at the Portuguese National Library in Lisbon, and from some baroque paintings, glazed tiles ('azulejos') and sculptures (Nativity scenes), by Portuguese artists or kept in Portuguese collections, showing violinists and/or dancers.
2011 - Patrícia Janečková - Sancta Maria (P. Mascagni)
No copyright infringement intended.
For more information on Patricia, please visit her official page at Facebook by searching on Facebook for: @patriciajaneckova.
Sancta Maria (Holy Mary) is a Latin-language soprano aria based on the Intermezzo from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana (Italian for rustic chivalry). It uses the same lyrics as Ave Maria and has become a popular concert piece.
The opera is in one act and composed by Pietro Mascagni to an Italian libretto by Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti and Guido Menasci, adapted from an 1880 short story of the same name [it] and subsequent play by Giovanni Verga. Considered one of the classic verismo operas, it premiered on 17 May 1890 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome.
Eight months after she became the winner of the Czech and Slovakian talent contest Talentmania, Patricia stars at the age of 13 at the Viva Musica! festival in Bratislava. It is her first public performance with a symphonic orchestra. Enjoy Patricia's rendition of the beautiful aria Sancta Maria. As always she delivers with great passion.
