City of Ashland considers panhandling ordinances HD
Local panhandlers may be impacted big time by tomorrow’s city council meeting. The Ashland city council is reviewing and discussing two possible ordinances that would put new restrictions on street solicitation.
The first ordinance up for consideration would make it illegal for panhandlers to ask someone for money if the person that they are asking is in their car, seated at a downtown cafe, or within 20 feet of an ATM or bank. This does not specify whether or not signs would be considered a solicitation, but does state that requests do not have to be made orally. The second ordinance up for consideration would prevent people from being able to place an object or animal or block people on pedestrian passageways for more than 5 minutes. This does not include the delivery of merchandise or events where permits could be given.
According to Council Communications, the ordinances were partially influenced by residents, tourists, vistors, and business owners complaining about agressive panhandling and people blocking pathways.
Some citizens are worried that these proposed ordinances may unfairly target the homeless
The Ashland city council will review and discuss these ordinances tomorrow. Ultimately though, the councilors have no requirement to take action and may not go to vote on these ordinances. Reporting from Ashland, this is Alexander Mesadieu, back to you.

Lee Ernst on the 2009 Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program
2009 Lunt-Fontanne Fellow Lee Ernst: Personal reflections on the July week at Ten Chimneys with Master Teacher Lynn Redgrave; segment(s) from the 2009 LFFP Concluding Presentation (a public program where Ms. Redgrave and the Fellows treated a live audience to a behind-the-scenes look at their Master Class process).
Ten Chimneys, Genesee Depot, Wisconsin On July 13, 2009, ten of the most respected and talented actors from across the United States formed the inaugural class of the Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program and embarked on a week of intensive study and reflection on the art of acting, led by master teacher and revered Shakespearean actress, Lynn Redgrave.
The Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program is a groundbreaking national program to serve regional theatre actors and the future of American theatre. The program, created by Ten Chimneys Foundation, is a fitting tribute to Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, who are widely regarded as the greatest acting couple in the history of the American theatre. Answering the question, where do our nations acting mentors go to be mentored? the inaugural Lunt-Fontanne Fellows have come to Ten Chimneys to study with Ms. Redgrave and literally walk in the footsteps of the Lunts closest pals and protégés (Helen Hayes, Noël Coward, Alexander Woollcott, Katharine Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, Uta Hagen, Montgomery Clift, Julie Harris, and on and on)
The 2009 Lunt-Fontanne Fellows:
• Suzanne Bouchard nominated by Seattle Repertory Theatre (Seattle)
• Dan Donohue nominated by Oregon Shakespeare Festival (Ashland)
