Christmas Hygge in Haugesund, Norway – Vlogmas #1
****OPEN ME FOR MORE****
We headed to the small town of Haugesund this past weekend, just to explore somewhere new and check out their Christmas market! Originally, we really wanted to go to Bergen but flights were quite expensive and we weren’t quite up to spend 10 hours on a bus on one weekend, so we decided to make a compromise and head somewhere in the middle: Haugesund!
It is such a lovely town, that I definitely want to revisit in the summer – doing better research and renting a car next time :)
Anyway, for more pictures and info about Haugesund, check out my blog post and don’t forget to participate in the Christmas giveaway here:

Viking Tour - Avaldsnes, Norway part 2
Please excuse how I say the city name. Whoops. It is Haug e sund. This is further along the walk of the Viking tour.
We did not have any specific plans when we got to Haugesund, Norway so we headed to the information center on Strandgt and Skjoldavn. There I found out about the Viking tour of a Viking farm. Being a fan of the show Vikings, I was extremely interested. We did not have a lot of time before the tour would leave so we quickly headed to Our Savior's Church where our cruise bus had dropped us off and where the tour was picking up.
They sold the tour tickets at the bus. However, apparently you could have bought them online. There was major confusion on where to line up for the tour, there was different tour lining up nearby as well, and there was not clear signage to follow. We barely made it on the bus!
The bus ride to the farm is about 30min and they charge you for the tour once you reach the location. The tour starts at St. Olav's Church and there is even an active archaeologic excavation site there!
This tour has a bit of walking up and over some hills but you can somewhat go at your own pace.
Filmed on my Samsung Galaxy 7 in August 2017.

Summoned to play it the old way in a new age, Trondheim, Norway quintet Dunbarrow draws inspiration from freezing winter nights, unpolished demo tapes from the 70’s and the Swedish throwback rock from the beginning of the 21st century. The result is Norwegian proto-doom with a back-to-basics sound, from Pentagram and Witchfinder General to Quicksilver Messenger Service.
Dunbarrow’s clean, unadorned sound shares the unpretentious brilliance of classic heavy progenitors playing basements and barns, before the big budgets and bloated habits diluted hard rock into an echo chamber awash in reverb and layered in distant, screeching hobbits. The band’s 9-track self-titled album is a classic in the sense that every song becomes instantly recognizable after just one listen.
With lyrics like the clever paean to a young witch mother’s birth of “Lucifer’s Child”, Dunbarrow has a wealth of gloomy sentiments: “Can you understand my young mother’s plight / Away from the comforts that burn at the stake / She gave birth to a venomous snake / On her great pyre she smiled / For she carried Lucifer’s child.”
Dunbarrow is based in the far northern Norwegian city Trondheim, but is originally from Haugesund on the west coast of Norway. The band has been playing together for over 8 years through different band names and genres. In 2014, vocalist Espen Andersen joined the band upon the departure of original singer/bassist Richard Chappell. Sondre Berge went from playing drums to playing bass. Kenneth Lønning and Eirik Øvregård are still on the guitars, with Pål Gunnar Dale taking over the drums permanently in 2016. Espen Andersen recorded and mixed the debut album at Stoy Studios. Dunbarrow is hitting the studio for their second album this summer.

Devil - They pale || live @ Roadburn / 013 || 14-04-2012
All my Roadburn 2012 videos:
From the Roadburn 2012 website:
Founded in 2009, Norway's Devil are a return to the heyday of proto-metal. With a stripped down, vintage, melodic sound that recalls the likes of Black Sabbath, Pentagram and a more typical NWOBHM vibe of Witchfinder General, Devil's debut full-length,Time to Repent offers up tales of sorcery, evil women, open graves and all manner of good clean family fun with an utter and complete lack of pretense. On stage, Devil don't attempt any overblown grandeur either, as the band relies instead on their swaggering doom, chuggy guitar riffs and their honest to god, pure garage-metal approach. All hail Devil!
