FORTE DO PESQUEIRO DO MENINO - VILA DE SÃO SEBASTIÃO - Ilha Terceira Açores 2018

The Forte do Pesqueiro dos Meninos is located in the village of São Sebastião, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, on the south coast of Terceira island, Azores.
It constitutes a fortification to defend this anchorage against the attacks of pirates and corsairs, once frequent in this region of the Atlantic ocean. He crossed fires with Forte do Bom Jesus (on his right) and with the old fortress of Porto Novo (or São Sebastião), disappeared, to defend the bay of Porto Novo.
After the earthquake of 1881 found itself abandoned and in ruins.
Nowadays only sections of the old walls remain on the west and south sides. The stone stonework of the wall is very eroded, with the mortars in sight, although in some places these have already disappeared. Residues of mortar are visible on the south and southeast sides of the support rock.
A wonderful place to visit.

Dear José Manuel Oliveira & Co. - it was a great pleasure to watch the vibrant and colourful performance last night in Horta, Faial.
You, the artists and everyone involved in all aspects of CDL are to be deeply congratulated and thanked for your dedication and commitment. To have such an internationally recognized dance company in such intimate contact with the audience is an honour for our island. It is, for us, a rare opportunity to feel the excitement of the senses only a live performance can create - the closeness of the artists inviting the heart and soul of the audience to join them on the stage and to dance with them, to join them in the magic of the moment!
The high energy and innovation of the performers was a joy to behold; the stage was superbly filled with warm embracing colour, a beautifully chosen backdrop of music and costumes that softly added to the style and grace of the works performed. The hard work and deep, long commitment by the artists and the direction is seldom seen or considered by the audience, but is appreciated and evident in last nights superb production.
I will wish you the very best of good fortune in all future works and travels. May the collective dreams of the entire Company come true with ease and tranquillity.
We all look forward to the next time CDL graces the Horta stage. Again, with kind thanks for all your efforts to make this happen. Duncan Sweet
Utopia 500
An exciting collaboration between the ABC, the ANU Centre for Law, Arts and the Humanities, and the National Library of Australia—featuring Alexis Wright, Miles Franklin award-winning author of Carpentaria and The Swan Book; Peter Singer, the most wide-ranging and influential philosopher in the world today; Russell Jacoby, author of The End of Utopia and Utopian Thought for an Anti-Utopian Age; and Jacqueline Dutton, an expert on the history of Australian utopias.
Thomas More wrote a book, coined a word… and changed the world. Since then, Utopia has beckoned to dreamers, thinkers, and critics across the globe. It has appealed to the very best in us. But it has also drawn out the very worst in us. And after 500 years, utopia seems as far off as ever.
We are faced with a world in which the largest problems seem utterly beyond us, and any effort to reimagine the future is begin replaced by a savage retreat to the imagined past. Short-term cycles dominate our media; pragmatic thinking dominates our politics. So is there any place left for utopian thinking in public life, in Australia in 2017? Is such a shift possible – or even desirable? Where is our island heading, and what sort of place do we want it to be?
To mark the 500th anniversary of the publication of Utopia, the ANU Centre for Law, Arts, and the Humanities is organising a major public event to be held at the National Library of Australia. Join us for a live roundtable featuring four renowned public intellectuals from Australia and abroad, in conversation with Paul Barclay from the ABC’s Big Ideas Unit. Together, they will discuss the role—or absence—of imagination and aspiration in how we address the critical issues confronting Australian society in the 21st century.
Is it too late to dream, or are we destined for a nightmare future? Find out.
