Ragged Falls at Oxtongue River - Ragged Falls Provincial Park
* A more recent video (October, 2018) by us of Ragged Falls is available here:
Located just outside the western entrance to Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, Oxtongue River - Ragged Falls is a day-use provincial park. This park consists of a simple parking lot just off highway 60 with a short forest trail leading to Ragged Falls.
There is a fee to park. However, if you have paid for the day at Algonquin or any other Ontario Provincial Park, your pass will work at Oxtongue River. Parking is $5.25 for two hours, $7.50 for four hours and $14 for a full day. Two hours is all that is needed to explore the area pretty thoroughly.
Although rugged and surprisingly secluded so close to the main highway, you will never be alone at Ragged Falls. This is a busy location, being so close to Algonquin and the Muskoka tourist area.
This waterfall is definitely ragged. It is a cascade that runs for several hundred feet, over, under and between rocks.

Oxtongue River - Ragged Falls Provincial Park: Autumn Views (October, 2018)
Video of Ragged Falls and the Oxtongue River from a visit on October 11, 2018. The park is located just a short distance from the southwest entrance to the much larger Algonquin Provincial Park.
A non-operating, day-use park, Oxtongue River - Ragged Falls Provincial Park is a hidden gem on any visit to Algonquin. Located 8 KM before the entrance to the iconic Algonquin, signage off highway 60 is minimal.
A short drive off the highway and a short walk on what can be muddy trails, the waterfall is turbulent, no matter the time of year. In fall colours, the scenes upstream can be quite breathtaking. The muddy terrain and hidden quality of the entrance makes this park much less crowded than its bigger neighbour but no less beautiful.
There is a fee for parking but if you purchase a ticket from the automated machine on site, that ticket is good at any other Ontario Provincial Park (including Algonquin) for the amount of time specified. This is a great way to get around the line-ups at the park office located just up the road.
A previous video taken about 5 years ago and with calmer waters can be seen here (the difference in the water level is quite drastic):

Oxtongue River-Ragged Falls Provincial Park in Spring (May 2015)
Oxtongue River-Ragged Falls Provincial Park is located just a short distance from Algonquin Park's West Gate, on Highway 60. It is approximately 30 kilometers east of the town of Huntsville, Ontario, in the northwestern corner of Haliburton County. The park's main features are its namesakes, the steep cascade known as Ragged Falls, forming a part of the scenic Oxtongue River. You can follow the trail from the bottom of the untamed falls to a point just above. Above the falls, you can see the relative calm, which contrasts with the raging whitewater torrent below.
