The expansion of towns and cities in Africa has increased at a very vertical rate in recent years. There seems to be a great deal of competition between African cities to see who can build Africa’s most impressive Buildings. Having the world's tallest building can bring tourism revenue and glory to its host city, although it is not a title that many cities hold on to for very long. The history of skyscrapers in Africa began in 1973 with the construction of Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, which held the title of the tallest building in Africa until April 2019.
Having felt the prestige that comes with hosting the tallest towers in the land, it is not surprising that South Africa has worked itself up to command the lion’s share of the tallest buildings in Africa.

10. Pearl Dawn – Height – 152m (31 Floors) South Africa
Pearl Dawn, a 152-meter-tall residential skyscraper in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, ends the list of the ten tallest buildings in Africa. The 31-storey building is one of South Africa’s recent skyscrapers having been completed in 2008.
9. Marble Tower – Height – 152m (32 floors) South Africa
The Marble Towers is a skyscraper in the Central Business District of Johannesburg, South Africa. It was built in 1973 and is 32 storeys tall. The building has an eight-storey parking garage attached to it. The structure is made out of a mixture of concrete and marble.
The tower is in use as commercial offices. The building was originally known as the Sanlam Centre. It is located on the corner of Jeppe and Von Wielligh Streets

PSPF Towers is a 153-meter-tall twin tower building in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The 35-storey building is designed to create a flexible module that can host countless office setups for a variety of uses.

Tanzania Ports Authority Tower, a 157-meter-tall tower in Dar es Salaam, is the tallest building in Tanzania. Completed in 2016, the 35-storey building serves as the headquarters of the Tanzania Ports Authority
6. NECOM House – Height - 160m (32 floors) Nigeria
NECOM House (formerly NITEL Tower) is a skyscraper located in Lagos. The 32-story building was completed in 1979, and houses the headquarters of NITEL. The communications spire at the top of the tower serves as a lighthouse beacon for Lagos Harbor. The building is constructed of concrete. The building was the tallest in West Africa at the time of completion.
5. UAP Tower – Height – 163m (33 Floors) Kenya
UAP Old Mutual Tower is a 33-storey office complex in the Upper Hill neighborhood of Nairobi, the capital and largest city in Kenya. It became the tallest structure in Kenya upon its completion in 2015, surpassing Times Tower which had held that record for 15 years.
4. Ponte City Appartments – Height – 173m(55 Floors) South Africa
Ponte City is a skyscraper in the Berea neighbourhood of Johannesburg, South Africa, just next to Hillbrow. It was built in 1975 to a height of 173 m, making it the tallest residential skyscraper in Africa. The 55-story building is cylindrical, with an open centre allowing additional light into the apartments. The centre space is known as the core and rises above an uneven rock floor. When built, Ponte City was seen as an extremely desirable address due to its views over all of Johannesburg and its surroundings. The neon sign on top of the building is the largest sign in the southern hemisphere and advertised for the Coca-Cola Company prior to 2000. It currently advertises the South African mobile phone company Vodacom
3. Britam Tower – 200m (31 floors) Kenya
Britam Tower is a commercial building in Nairobi owned by British-American Investments Company (Britam). The skyscraper has a maximum height of 195 metres , above ground, with 32 usable floors. The building features a unique prismic shape, that starts as an equal four sided square footprint and ends with a two sided roof with a 60 metres mast, containing three helical wind turbines. It currently ranks as the tallest building in Kenya.
2. Carlton Centre – Height – 223m (50 Floors) South Africa
The Carlton Centre is a 50 story skyscraper and shopping centre located in downtown Johannesburg, South Africa. At 223 metres, it is the second tallest building in Africa after The Leonardo and the tallest office building. The foundations of the two buildings in the complex are 5m in diameter and extend 15 m down to the bedrock, 35 m below street level. The building houses both offices and shops, and has over 46
