On 07-07-1992, Mr. Willy t. Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland in India brought Khajjiar on the world tourism map by christening it Mini Switzerland. He also put a sign board of a yellow Swiss hiking footpath showing Khajjiar's distance from the Swiss capital Berne-6194 km. Khajjiar is among the 160 locations in the world that bear topographical resemblance with Switzerland. The Counselor also took from Khajjiar a stone which will form part of a stone collage around the Swiss Parliament to remind the visitors of Khajjiar as Mini Switzerland of India. It is about 6,500 feet (2,000 m) above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas and snowy peaks can be seen in the distance. It is part of the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary.
Khajjiar is often reffered to as Gulmarg of Himachal Pradesh.
.Khajjiar is a hill station in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, India, located approximately 24 km from Dalhousie. Khajjiar sits on a small plateau with a small stream-fed lake in the middle that has been covered over with weeds.
Khajjiar can be reached from Dalhousie and Chamba, the nearest major town and hill station, by bus/Taxi in an hour or so. It has a rare combination of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest, all in one place.

Since Khajjiar is situated at the base of the Dhauladhar mountains, the tourists here can get panoramic views of the mountains
Khajjiar Lake: Khajjiar Lake is a small lake, surrounded by saucer-shaped lush green meadow and a floating island. The dense growth of weed called 'vacha' has made its earth spongy. Now the banks stand covered by a thick layer of earth, formed by the years of dust settling down on the weeds.

Close up of Monitor lizard at Arki in Himachal Pradesh
Monitor lizards are generally large lizards, although some can be as small as 20 cm (7.9 in) in length. A total of 73 species are currently recognized; however, given that several species-groups are in need of taxonomic review, this number is certain to be increased with future research. They have long necks, powerful tails and claws, and well-developed limbs. Most species are terrestrial, but arboreal and semiaquatic monitors are also known. While most monitor lizards are carnivorous, three arboreal species, Varanus bitatawa, Varanus mabitang, and Varanus olivaceus, are primarily frugivores. They are oviparous, laying from seven to 37 eggs, which they often cover with soil or protect in a hollow tree stump. Most species of monitor lizard have a predominantly carnivorous diet, eating eggs, smaller reptiles, fish, birds and small mammals. Some species of monitor lizard also eat fruit and vegetation depending on where they live.

Langurs panic and run helter skelter !
Group of Gray langurs in Panna National Park, India. We've never seen such a large group panic and disperse so quickly!
Gray langurs or Hanuman langurs, the most widespread langurs of South Asia, are a group of Old World monkeys constituting the entirety of the genus Semnopithecus. All taxa have traditionally been placed in the single species Semnopithecus entellus. In 2001, it was recommended that several distinctive former subspecies should be given full species status, so that seven species are recognized. A taxonomic classification with fewer species has also been proposed. Genetic evidence suggests that the Nilgiri langur and purple-faced langur, which usually are placed in the genus Trachypithecus, actually belong in Semnopithecus.
Gray langurs are large and fairly terrestrial, inhabiting forest, open lightly wooded habitats, and urban areas on the Indian subcontinent. Most species are found at low to moderate altitudes, but the Nepal gray langur and Kashmir gray langur occur up to 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) in the Himalayas.
Hanuman refers to the Hindu deity Hanuman.
Panna National Park is a national park located in Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh in India. It has an area of 542.67 km2 (209.53 sq mi). It was declared in 1994 as the twenty second Tiger reserve of India and the fifth in Madhya Pradesh, Panna was given the Award of Excellence in 2007 as the best maintained national park of India by the Ministry of Tourism of India. It is notable that by 2009, the entire tiger population had been eliminated by poaching with the collusion of forest department officials.
Panna National Park and the surrounding territorial forest area of North and South Panna forest division is the only large chunk of wildlife habitat remaining in North Madhya Pradesh in the otherwise fragmented forest landscape of the region.
The National Park is situated at a point where the continuity of the Tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests belt, which starts from Cape Comorin in South India, is broken and beyond this the Upper Gangetic Plains moist deciduous forests of the great Indo-Gangetic Plain begins. This area is the northernmost tip of the natural teak forests and the easternmost tip of the natural 'Kardhai' Anogeissus pendula forests.
The forests of Panna National Park along with Ken Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary and adjoining territorial divisions form a significant part of the catchment area of the 406 km (252 mi) Ken River which runs northeast for about 72 km (45 mi) through the park.

हिमालय दर्शन Uttarakhand with Mom (Part-2) Kedarnath, Badrinath, Joshimath, Pancha Prayag, Yogabadri
This video contains my memories of visiting Uttarakhand with my mom. There are two parts of this story. This is the second part which includes – Dev Prayag, Rudra Prayag, Gourikund, Kedarnath, Joshimath, Badrinath, Bamani, Mana, Pandukeswar, Gobindghat, Karna Prayag, Adibadri and many more.
After visiting Gangotri and Uttarkashi we visited Devaprayag on our return trip. A prayag is a confluence of two rivers and Devaprayag is one of the five important prayags (confluences) on Himalays. Devprayag is the confluence of river Alakananda and Bhagirathi whih forms river Ganga thereafter. We stayed in Devaprayag for two days. My mom (85 years) took a holy bath in the sangam. After taking bath we climbed up more than 200 steps to visit Raghunath temple on the hill.
Rudraprayag is an important tourist hub from where you can go to Kedarnath and Badrinath. We visited Rudraprayag twice during our Chardham tour. Rudraprayag is famous for the confluence of river Mandakini and Alakananda. I and my mom took bath in the holy river.
Gourikund is the end point of Bus journey from where one has to trek to Kedarnath. This place is 2000 meters above sea level and extremely cold. We visited famous Gouri temple and ganapati temple in Gourikund. Besides there is a shiva temple in front of Gouri temple known as Uma Maheswar temple. There is a hot spring in Gourikund. We also took bath in Gourikund hot spring.
From Gourikund we started our trekking to Kedaranath. Bobby and I went on horse and my mom (85 years) went by a palki carried by four people. The route was much better with availability of shops, toilets and other basic facilities. This trekking was much simpler than Gangotri-Gomukh trekking.
Kedarnath is considered as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The temple is very ancient and is believed to be built by the Pandavas after the Mahabharat war. Apart from Kedarnath temple, we also visited shankaracharya temple (behind kedarnath temple), bhaironath temple (on a hill by the side of kedarnath temple) and other places nearby.
From Gourikund we took a bus to return back to Rudraprayag. Next morning we left Rudraprayag for Joshimath. It was very hectic journey with a painful delay of 3 hours on the way. Finally we reached Joshimath at 4 PM. All of us were extremely tired. We took a room in a hotel near the bus stand and lied down for rest
We first visited the Narasimha temple in Joshimath. This temple is famous because lord Badrinath stays here in this temple during winter when Badrinath temple is closed. There are also other temples in the same campus like Vasudeva temple garuda temple, Navadurga temple etc. in the same campus. Next morning we first went to visit Bhavisya Kedar temple. This is a Shiva temple near Jyotirmath. This is a small temple but very ancient and famous in Joshimath. Next we went to visit Jyotirmath, the matha of Shankaracharya. There we saw Totakacharya gupha, Adi Shankaracharya gupha, Amara kalpabriksha (2400 years old tree), Tripura Sundari temple, Poornagiri temple and many other temples.
Badrinath road was broken and no bus was going there. After waiting for a long time we finally got a taxi to go to Badrinath. The views of Joshimath Badrinath road was really mesmerizing. Badrinath is about 322 from haridwar and 50 kms from Joshimath. The place is high on Himalayas about 3110 meters above see level. We stayed there for 3 days and visited various places in and around Badrinath.
It was a great feeling to visit the famous Badrinath temple. My mom (85 years) got a special permission to visit very close to the lord and touch in her hands. She was very happy to have this rare opportunity. We also visited bamani village, charana paduka, Mana village, Pandukeswar, Gobind Ghat etc. which are on separate videos. We took bath in the Taptakund (hot spring) near the temple. Taptakund was just by the side of the river.
Yogabadri is one of the Five famous Badris (Pancha Badri) on Himalayas. The temple is about 20 kms from Badrinath in a place called Pandukeswar. From Pandukeswar we got a jeep to Gobindaghat. Gobindaghat is about 4 kms from Pandukeswar. Gobindaghat is a famous religious place for Sikhs. From here people start trekking for Hemakunda Sahib and Valley of flowers
The worst was when we returned from Badrinath. After 30 hours of painful journey from Badrinath finally we could reach Karna Prayag. Karnaprayaga is named after the great warior Karna of Mahabharata. This place is famous for the confluence of two sacred rivers Alakananda and Pidaraganga. We took a holy bath in the Sangam place. My mother was very happy to bath in all sacred places. We also visited the famous Umadevi temple in Karna prayaga. We also visited Adibadri from Karnaprayag. Adibadri is one of the five famous Badris (panchabadri). Adibadri is about 16 kms from Karnaprayag.
