STORYLINE
Shouting Long live national reunification, a South Korean activist who spent more than three months in North Korea without his government's approval stepped over the line dividing the North and South, and was promptly arrested on Thursday.
The stunt by No Su-hui, 68, was designed to draw attention to the division of the Korean Peninsula.
He had gone to Pyongyang from China in March without Seoul's permission, defying a law that prohibits South Koreans from travelling to North Korea without government approval, officials in Seoul said.
He was arrested immediately after his return, police in Seoul said.
Associated Press video showed South Korean officials in suits grabbing a defiant and resistant No just after he stepped over the demarcation line inside the Demilitarised Zone as South Korean soldiers snapped photographs at close distance.
On the other side of the border, soldiers and officials stood watching the melee as crowds of North Koreans waved white unified Korea flags.
Turning around to face crowds of cheering North Koreans before stepping over the line, No raised his arms and shouted Long live national reunification, by our nation itself, a white unified Korea flag in his right hand and a bouquet of flowers in his left.
No serves as vice chairman of South Korea's Pan-Alliance for Korea's Reunification.
Most tourists must enter and exit North Korea via China.

Visitors flock to Paju, one of the closest cities to North Korea
남북정상회담 이후 파주 관광객 급증
The city of Paju captured the attention of the world when it hosted the historic inter-Korean summit.
Curious about the region that is just south of the demarcation line separating the two Koreas,... a growing number of visitors have been flocking to the area.
Our Park Hee-jun was there to turn the spotlight on the various tourist attractions. Paju city in Gyeonggi-do Province is close to North Korea, both in terms of distance and history.
And within the city limits is Imjingak-- a village built in 1972, a couple of decades after the Korean War armistice was agreed. Imjingak is only about 7 kilometers away from the Demarcation Line.
“This village stands as a symbol of hope-- hope for reunification between the two Koreas. And after the 2018 inter-Korean Summit was held nearby in Panmunjom, more and more people have been visiting the area.
Following the summit, the number of visitors to some attractions has nearly tripled. It's a popular spot for those wishing to get a close-up understanding of the two Koreas' history, but it's also a great destination for couples and families to take some time off and relax.
Especially the last day there was this meeting between these two presidents. So now I was feeling that it was a good time to know more about this situation, this political situation.
Hopefully there will be more exchanges between the two Koreas through roads and railways, so that I can also visit Baekdusan Mountain.
And thanks to the soaring numbers of visitors,... restaurants and cafes in the area are also seeing better business.
Sales are 2 to 2-and-half times higher than around a week ago. Many people are visiting Imjingak out of curiosity from the meeting between the two Koreas.
At the village, visitors can take a trip back through history,... to the war that separated South and North.
It's one of the world's most heavily guarded borders, but the atmosphere is calm and quiet.
To boost tourism in the region,... the government plans to create more attractions and increase the city's annual festivals.
And with hopes for peace and reunification in the air,... Paju could have even more visitors in the future.

STORYLINE
Authorities arrested a South Korean religious activist on Friday as he passed through the heavily fortified demilitarised zone after an illegal trip to North Korea.
A UN Command spokesman said that South Korean officials took Reverend Han Sang-ryol into custody as he walked through the village of Panmunjom along the border separating the two Koreas.
The UN Command - which oversees an armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War - has jurisdiction over the southern half of the village.
The command and South Korea said Han's crossing violated the armistice as well as a South Korean law barring its citizens from visiting the North without government permission.
It also bans citizens from supporting or praising North Korea.

Lotte Premium Outlet in Paju, South Korea VLOG (Let's see North Korea북한)
This video was filmed at Paju Lotte Premium Outlet
The Outlet is a good attraction for travelers in Korea
[Paju, a South Korean city located beside the west end of DMZ, the world's most militarised border dividing the Korean Peninsula and the site of some of the fiercest battles during Korean War (1950-1953).
Paju is well-publicised for its DMZ attractions like Panmunjom (Joint Security Area/'blue buildings') and The Third Tunnel that can only be visited on organised group tours, there are in fact less ‘heavy’ and amazing attractions at Paju that you can travel on your own.]
임진각 - Walking around Imjingak, Paju, Korea
Imjingak (임진각(臨津閣), pronounced Ihm-jin-gak), and sometimes in English called the Imjingak resort, is a park located on the banks of the Imjin River in the city of Paju, South Korea. The park has many statues and monuments regarding the Korean War. There is also a restaurant, an observation deck, a pool in the shape of the Korean peninsula, and even a small amusement park.
The park was built to console those from both sides who are unable to return to their hometowns, friends and families because of the division of Korea.
Imjingak is where the Bridge of Freedom lies. The Freedom bridge does actually cross the Imjin river. It is a former railroad bridge which was used by repatriated POWs/soldiers returning from the north. It is more famous, however, and until 1998 was the only point of egress in the western sector other than Liberty Bridge (which was controlled by the ROK Army) onto the DMZ, and the only direct link to Camp Greaves, Liberty Bell, and Panmunjom. This is not to be confused with the bridge of freedom which is merely an access bridge to the main span that allowed the one way southbound traffic to pass by while northbound traffic stood waiting its turn to cross; it now crosses a stream adjacent to the Imjin river and connects with the North-South railway.

Korean DMZ- Freedom Bridge - Imjin-gang (Imjin River)
Freedom Bridge was the main access to the JSA-Panmunjom areas up till 1998, when the Unification Bridge open! For many of us DMZ Veterans, it brings in a meaning that most don't know or understand!
Wooden planks, gunshot holes, guarded, ready to blow up, and one lane bridge; handled ALL the traffic to in and out of the Panmunjom area for 45 years!
When you crossed this Bridge, you were in the Zone, DMZ Zone that is.

North, south korea begin rare talks at the border ahead of olympics
Senior officials from North and South Korea began the rivals first formal talks in about two years Tuesday to discuss how to cooperate in next months Winter Olympics in the South and how to improve their longstrained ties. The talks in the border village of Panmunjom were arranged after North Koreas leader Kim Jong Un recently made an abrupt push for improved ties with South Korea and are closely watched by the outside world after a year of elevated tensions over North Koreas expanding nuclear and missile programs. The head of North Korean delegation Ri Son Gwon, center, arrives at the South side for the meeting with South Korea at the Panmunjom in the Demilitarized Zone in Paju, South Korea, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018. Welcome to Seoul: Paju Provence Village
안녕하세요 여러분!
We finally went to Provence Village! I've always wanted to come here and we finally made it.
We also intended to go to English Village and Hyeri Art Village but I saw some articles saying the former has already been closed down and museums/stores in Hyeri Art Village are closed on Mondays. We didn't want to risk it because both were quite a walk from Provence Village. We decided to go back to Seoul after. Also, so at least we still have a place to visit next time we are back in Seoul.
In all honesty, I am already running out of tourist-y places to go to in Seoul. But I love coming here still. Seoul will always have my soul.
