Starting from Sethumadai check post of Anamalai Tiger Reserve we reached Kerala region after driving almost 30 kms through the dense forest to enter Parambikulam Tiger Reserve. Paid the entry fee at the check post and then checked in to Parambikulam Tiger Reserve. The tents for the stay was excellent and the food was yummy. Listening to the sounds of the birds and animals in the wild we had food and started for the activities.
Visited 2 dam sites, 2 view points and The famous Kannimara Teak tree the tallest teak tree in Asia. Leter watched the Tribal dance after doing a bamboo rafting in the Parambikulam lake for 30 minutes. The return journey in the night to the resort was thrilling as we could watch various wild animals. Still we couldnt watch the elephants from near. Just could see a group moving far away inside the forest. Over all it was a wonderful day at Parambikulam Tiger Reserve.

Parambikulam Sanctuary [ Palakkad , Kerala , India ]
Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, which also includes the erstwhile Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, is a 391 square kilometres protected area in Chittur taluk in Palakkad district of Kerala state, South India. It is in the Sungam range of hills between the Anaimalai Hills and Nelliampathy Hills. The Western Ghats, Anamalai Sub-Cluster, including all of Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site. The sanctuary is the home of four different tribes of indigenous peoples including the Kadar, Malasar, Muduvar and Mala Malasar settled in six colonies. Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is a well protected ecological portion in the Nelliampathy - Anamalai landscape of the Southern Western Ghats in India.

Parambikulam Dam
Parambikulam Dam is an embankment dam on the Parambikulam River, Parambikulam located in the Palakkad district in the Western Ghats of Kerala, India,
ranks number one in India as well as in the top ten embankment dams in the world in volume in the year 2000.
This Dam was built at the time of Kamarajar. The dam is operated and maintained by Tamil Nadu but the ownership rests with Kerala,
Per the agreement with Tamil Nadu, Kerala was supposed to receive 7.25 TMC feet of water per year from the Parambikulam Aliyar Project of which the Parambikulam Dam is a part.
In 2004, Kerala did not receive any water after February 10, resulting in the drying up of paddy in thousands of acres in Chittur taluk.
Since this agreement has still not been met as of July 2006, Kerala Water Resources Minister has called for a review of the project agreement.
On 17 October 2012, Kerala and Tamil Nadu reached an accord on Parambikulam-Aliyar water.
Thunakkadavu Dam
Thunakkadavu Dam is situated in Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala across Thunacadavu River, which is a tributary of Parambikulam River,
in Palakkad district of Kerala, India. It is part of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project.This is a small balancing Reservoir with gross capacity is 557 Mcft.
The water that is received from Prambikulam Reservoir and from the Peruvaripallam Reservoir, as well as from its own catchment,
is diverted to the Sarkarpathy Power House through the Sarkarpathy Power Tunnel.
Kannimara Teak
Kannimara Teak Tree is one of the world’s largest living Trek tree found in Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, with an amazing height of 39.98 m, girth pf 7.15 m (at breast height) and aged 465 years approximately.
The tree has been awarded (Mahaviriksha Puraskar) by the Government of India during 1944-95.
According to the local tribal belief, when this tree was tried to cut down, blood spurted out from the place where it was cut. Since then, this tree was worshipped by the local tribals in Parambikulam as Virgin Tree. Thus the name Kannimara is given as he word Kanni means Virgin.
