Kodai Offbeat-Trekking in Perumal Malai-Guhan School staff tour.
We (Guhan School,Madurai) wanted to go on a tour in an offbeat way to Kodaikanal.Trekking in Perumal Malai which is a half hour before Kodaikanal was the answer.The track available to the place made it less of an adventure but returning was a once in a life time experience.Having got someone with a property in the hills was a our privilege as they guided us to their farm house and let us stay there the afternoon.We even had a little party there.We had carried all the food supplies to the place.The river for a bath and the sprawling landscape for playing games was simply awesome and jungle further up the hill for collecting fruits was the cherry on the pie.But then the rain came pouring down and flooded the river forcing us to find our own way out.In the slippery mud,slush, and leeches it was nothing less than adventure.
And the previous day having seen Bisons as close as a few meteres in Kodaikanal is unforgettable.

The Climate is really awesome with misty mornings.The weather in Kodaikanal falls into three distinct seasons – the summer, the winter, and the monsoon.Kodaikanal can be visited through the year, but the ideal time to visit is in the winter between October and March. This is when the weather is at its best. The summer and monsoon months, of April to June and between July and September respectively, also make for a good Kodaikanal trip.

Pillar Rocks, 8 kilometres from the bus-stand, is a set of three giant rock pillars which stand 122 metres high. Managed by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, The viewpoint can be crowded but is not commercialized. There is an excellent public garden adjacent to the viewpoint.

Kodaikanal is a hill town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s set in an area of granite cliffs, forested valleys, lakes, waterfalls and grassy hills. At 2,000 meters above sea level, it has a cooler climate than the plains below and is a popular holiday destination. The town centers around star-shaped, man-made Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest.
The earliest residents of Kodaikanal were the Palaiyar tribal people. The earliest specific references to Kodaikanal and the Palani Hills are found in Tamil Sangam literature of the early Common era. Modern Kodaikanal was established by American Christian missionaries and British bureaucrats in 1845, as a refuge from the high temperatures and tropical diseases of the plains. In the 20th century a few elite Indians came to realise the value of this enchanting hill station and started relocating here
