Tour Scotland Autumn travel video of the Peter Pan statue, the boy who refused to grow up, on the High Street on ancestry, genealogy visit to Kirriemuir, Angus. Kirriemuir's most famous son was the author JM Barrie, born May 9, 1860, the son of a weaver, and the creator of Peter Pan. Barrie never recovered from the shock he received at six from a brother’s death and its grievous effect on his mother. Throughout his life Barrie wished to recapture the happy years before his mother was stricken, and he retained a strong childlike quality in his adult personality. The original sculpture was made by Alistair Smart, and stood in Glengate, Kirriemuir, but following damage to it a replacement was made and erected in its present position in the High Street. It was unveiled by the Countess of Airlie on August 13th 1994. Barrie died of pneumonia at a nursing home in Manchester Street, Marylebone, an area in the West End of London, England, on 19 June 1937. He was buried at Kirriemuir next to his parents and two of his siblings. Barrie’s marriage in 1894 to the actress Mary Ansell was childless and apparently unconsummated.

Peter Pan's Statue.
Kensington Palace Gardens, London.
People in park looking at statue of Peter Pan. Women in long dresses looking positively Victorian. (But the play by JM Barrie was written in 1904; so it's definitely after that at least). Woman bends down to small child; points at statue.
Monuments; literature.

The legendary story of Peter Pan is remembered in Hyde Park London.Peter Pan is a character created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie. A free spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up, Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the mystical island of Neverland as the leader of the Lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Native American Indians, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland. In addition to two distinct works by Barrie, the character has been featured in a variety of media and merchandise, both adapting and expanding on Barrie's works. These include a 1953 animated film, a 2003 dramatic/live-action film, a TV series and many other works.

Kirriemuir Relay for Life 2019
The Kirriemuir Relay for Life, 2 years in the planning, was cancelled on the day prior to the event due to awful weather then and forecast for throughout the event. Within 10 hours a new event had been pulled together and thanks to the wonderful spirit of the local community a reduced but no less enjoyable event was in place.
