Halkidiki travel and visit the Cave of Petralona just outside the village of Sithonia, in the foothills of Goat, which in 1960 found the fossilized skull of Archanthropus and then head to the Anthropological Museum in the region, which among other hosted bones of lions, hyenas, bears, panthers, elephants, rhinoceroses and bison, and Paleolithic tools.

Erica Cave HD - Halkidiki Greece
Our ability to be able to spend a long time underwater at depth is an amazing privilege. With it though goes the frustration of trying to describe what you see and feel while underwater. Two weeks ago Andreas walked into Dolphin Dive Center in Kalamitsi with a GoPro Hero 4 Hi Rez 60fps and I was excited at the possibility to give others a better idea of what we experience. What you see is the result of that and I joked when I first saw the video that it was clearer than what I saw with my own eyes through my mask!
In the video you can see new plaquess indicating the area, put recently by the local council. You can also see two moray eels and a rare lobster type creature being set free from a fishing line as wel as some amaing clourful plant and fish life. See also if you can see us go through the mirage of the thermocline too, where the temperature suddenly drops. I think my favourite shot is looking out from the relative darkness of the cave to the bright exterior which captures divers entering and exiting the cave and covers the full depth of the sea at that point.
Finally the music. I was going to add some royalty free music, but thought I'd just write my own music and what you hear is what you get. I basically put a drum beat on, pressed record and played the piano and hardly stopped to edit. The bass needed more work. I hope you have a good sound system so you can catch that too!
Comments welcome! Enjoy!
IFWTWA Media Trip - Haldidiki, Greece
They say that nowhere in Greece can boast beaches like those of Halkidiki. The region has the perfect combination of that distinctive Greek light, unspoiled landscapes, colors and fragrances.
Halkidiki has an amazing 550km of coastline, featuring a thousand different beaches, some rocky and imposing, others offering an endless expanse of golden sand. The Blue Flags that Halkidiki is awarded each year are richly deserved. Mount Athos is the mountain and the eastern-most peninsula of Halkidiki -- an UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to 20 Eastern Orthodox monasteries.
Halkidiki is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards; the air is rich with the scent of wild herbs and the bees produce sweet honey. The wine and the honey of Halkidiki were the favourite flavours of Aristotle, the great philosopher and Alexander the Great's teacher who was born here.
In Halkidiki, the visitor enjoys all the delights of the Mediterranean cuisine viewing the amazing natural landscapes.
The media trip included incredible experiences such as TSANTALIS Winery, Petralona cave, lunch at Sani Resort, Jeep Safari round Sithonia region, Porto Carras Winery, Cruise round Mt Athos Byzantine Monasteries, Tour guiding in Thessaloniki city and more!
Thank you to all of our hosts for welcoming our organization and for showing us the treasures of Halkidiki, Greece.

Pella & Aegae - Macedonian Capitals
Macedonia is a geographical and historical region of the Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe. Its boundaries have changed considerably over time, but nowadays the region is considered to include parts of five Balkan countries: N.Greece, the Republic of Slav-Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania and Serbia.
Its oldest known settlements date back approximately 9,000 years. From the middle of the 4th century BC, the Kingdom of Macedonia became the dominant power in Greece and the neighboring regions; since then Macedonia has had a diverse history. The definition of Macedonia has changed several times throughout history. Prior to its expansion under Philip II, the ancient kingdom of Macedonia, to which the modern region owes its name, lay entirely within the current Greek province of Macedonia.
The Roman province of Macedonia consisted of what is today Northern and Central Greece, the geographical area of the present-day Republic of Slav-Macedonia the southeast Albania and the southwest Bulgaria. Simply put, it covered a much larger area than ancient Macedonia. In late Roman times, the provincial boundaries were reorganized to form the Diocese of Macedonia with capital Thessaloniki, consisting of most of modern mainland Greece plus Crete, southern Albania, and parts of modern-day Bulgaria and the Republic of Slav-Macedonia.
Aegae, 60km SW of Thessalonica, the first ancient capital of the kingdom of Macedonia, spreads over the low hills on the northern slopes the Pierian range, between the modern villages of Palatitsia and Vergina. This city was the most important urban center in the region until the 4th c. BC. Here were to be found the ancestral sanctuaries of the Macedonians, and the palaces and the tombs (with their famous treasures) of the Argead dynasty, which traced its origins to the mythical hero Heracles and gave Greek history its most captivating figure, Alexander the Great.
Pella was the second capital of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia, 40km NW of Thessalonica. A common folk etymology is traditionally given for the name Pella ascribing it to a form akin to Doric Greek Apella, originally to have meant a ceremonial location where decisions were made. However, the local form of Greek was not Doric, and the word exactly matches standard Greek pilla stone, undoubtedly referring to a famous landmark from the time of its foundation.
