Here and Abroad: Photographs by David Taylor | Phoenix Art Museum
During a period of rapid change along the US-Mexico border in 2007, Arizona-based artist David Taylor began photographing the 276 monuments that delineate the border between Mexico and the United States, documenting each of the obelisks installed by the International Boundary Commission following the Mexican/American War.
In the process of his work, and as tensions in the area grewing as the zone became increasingly politicized, Taylor became familiar with the region, including the physical terrain, shifting politics, and human dynamics. The photographer undertook an extensive survey, one that rigorously engages the documentation conducted by Boundary Commission photographer D.R. Payne between 1891 and 1895. David Taylor: Photographs includes the full portfolio of monument photographs, installed in numerical order, to form a grid. It will also feature recent photographs that complement and expand upon the artist’s documentation of the monuments. Many of these pictures—some of them quite large—were made in the last few of years and enrich the story of Taylor’s experience photographing along the border. Primarily made in Tijuana, these new images are a succession of sketches guided by personal exploration and interaction. The photographs, a combination of expansive landscape views and images of people and interiors, are meant to reveal a space that is simultaneously foreign and familiar, much like the border itself.

Thorne Miniature Rooms at the Phoenix Art Museum
From Wikipedia: The model rooms were the brainchild of Narcissa Niblack Thorne, who was born in 1882 in Vincennes, Indiana. During her childhood, her uncle Albert Parker Niblack, a United States Navy vice admiral, sent her many antique dollhouse miniatures from around the world. The idea for the model rooms also developed from Thorne's collection of miniature furniture and household accessories, which she began assembling around 1900, and her desire to house and display these items. When she was 19, Thorne married Montgomery Ward department store heir James Ward Thorne, whose fortune would help finance her hobby.
These are some of the twenty rooms donated to the Phoenix Art Museum in 1962.

Arizona Historic State Capitol Video Tour
On our quest to see all 50 state capitol buildings, we toured the historic Arizona state capitol in downtown Phoenix. The building is no longer used by the legislature and instead is a museum. The actual working chambers for the House and Senate are next door. The Arizona state capitol building is far less impressive than other capitol buildings we've toured.

Phoenix is the capital of the southwestern U.S. state of Arizona. Known for its year-round sun and warm temperatures, it anchors a sprawling, multicity metropolitan area known as the Valley of the Sun. It's known for high-end spa resorts, Jack Nicklaus–designed golf courses and vibrant nightclubs. Other highlights include the Desert Botanical Garden, displaying cacti and numerous native plants.
Phoenix is the capital of the state of Arizona as well as the most populous city in the American Southwest and sixth largest city in the United States. Founded in 1871, it has become the region's primary political, cultural, economic, and transportation center. At an elevation of 1100 ft (335 m), it is situated in the biologically unique Sonoran Desert. Over time it has merged with the neighboring cities of Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert to form the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Currently exurbs such as Apache Junction, Fountain Hills, Queen Creek, and Sun City are becoming part of this metropolitan area as well. Phoenix is extremely hot in the summertime, so always have sun screen with you.
