MARIBOR - Slovenia Travel Guide | Around The World
Maribor is the second-largest city in Slovenia with 94,876 inhabitants as of 1 January 2017. It is also the largest city of the traditional region of Lower Styria and the seat of the City Municipality of Maribor.
Many historical structures stand in Maribor. Of the remains of city walls surrounding the old downtown, the most prominent are the Judgement Tower, the Water Tower, and the Jewish Tower. Maribor Cathedral was built in the Gothic style in the 13th century. Maribor Synagogue was built in the 14th century, and is the second oldest synagogue of Europe. Today it serves as a centre for cultural activities. Other prominent Medieval buildings are Maribor Castle, Betnava Castle, and the ruins of Upper Maribor Castle on Pyramid Hill. Town Hall was constructed in the Renaissance style, and the Plague Column in the Baroque style.
At the start of the 21st century, plans were made for a new modern business, residential and entertainment district, called the Drava Gate (Dravska vrata) and nicknamed the Maribor Manhattan. The project includes many new exclusive residential apartments, offices and conference halls, a green and recreational space, and other structures. It also includes a 111 m (364 ft) tall skyscraper that would be the tallest building in Slovenia. Due to lack of finances, the project has been postponed.
In 2008, the Studenci Footbridge (Studenška brv) was renovated according to the design of the Ponting company. The design was awarded that year at the 3rd International Footbridge Conference in Porto.
In 2010, Maribor organised an international architectural competition ECC Maribor 2012 – Drava 2012 to gather proposals for the design and reconstruction of the Drava banks, the construction of a new art gallery, and for a new footbridge. Its jury received about 400 proposals for the three different projects. The footbridge and the river embankments will be built in the near future, but the art gallery was replaced with a cultural center MAKS, which is currently under construction.
The construction of a new modern Faculty of Medicine started in 2011 near the Drava River. It was designed by architect Boris Podrecca and was completed in 2013.
There are plans to renovate the Maribor Public Library and Town Hall Square (Rotovški trg). In addition, the renovation of Maribor Island (Mariborski otok) in the Drava River has been planned.
The city hosts the University of Maribor, established in 1975, and many other schools.
Every June, the two-week Lent Festival (named after the waterfront district called Lent) is held, with hundreds of musical, theatrical and other events. Every year the festival attracts theatre, opera, ballet performers, classical, modern, and jazz musicians and dancers from all over the world, and of course many visitors. There is also mime, magic shows are being held and acrobats perform during the festival.
Maribor is known for wine and culinary specialities of international and Slovene cuisine (mushroom soup with buckwheat mush, tripe, sour soup, sausages with Sauerkraut, cheese dumplings, apple strudel, special cheese cake called gibanica). There are also many popular restaurants with Serbian cuisine. The Vinag Wine Cellar (Vinagova vinska klet), with the area of 20.000 m2 (215.28 sq ft) and the length of 2 km (1 mi), keeps 5,5 millions litres of wine. The house of the oldest grapevine in the world (Hiša stare trte) at Lent grows the world's oldest grapevine, which was in 2004 recorded in Guinness World Records. The grapevine of Žametovka is about 440 years old.
The most listened radio stations transmitting from Maribor are the commercial radio stations Radio City and Radio Net FM. They are followed by the national non-commercial Radio Maribor.
The alternative scene of Maribor is situated in the Pekarna (Bakery; former squat) area next to Magdalena Park.

UE SLO. - Abandoned caste #2. (Slovenia)
I apologize for the poor quality images and video. It was recorded with the phone.
Viltuš 's mansion near Maribor . Is the successor of the old castle Viltuš on a nearby hill , his name should be derived from the German word Wildhaus .
The new mansion was built on the plains of the river Drava . Construction took place in several stages, the final image is received in the second half of the 19th century , when he was an extremely popular historical styles breathed into the seal of romantic neo Norman style . The mansion is so architecturally very dynamic and is based on more organic confluent , although the height and orientation completely different , wings. Enchants you with a multitude of towers and dormer , especially with a large tower , which manages the building and gives it a new component . Once upon a time the castle was superbly equipped - this testimony preserved rare photos. After the famed marble fireplace , a one-off sculptural works (eg DAMINO bust ), and in particular the carved wooden ceilings . The mansion was built in a large landscaped park and the English type , planted with many rare , native and non-native ( among these are some exotic ) tree species . Today, the mansion has no real purpose . Is a public confined space and therefore frequently the target of hooliganism . The result is irresistible decay . The thing is exacerbated by the new road , which was cut up the park in two , and thus alienated from the castle.

Patriarchate - Mafija! Voina Group. Slovenia, 2012
Maribor archdiocese has sunk in corruption. The action had to draw attention of mass media to this problem. The Voina Group hung 8-meter-long banner reading «Nadškofija - mafija!» (Patriarchate - Mafia!) down from the bell tower of Stolnica. Voina also put up a 4-meter-high anarchist flag with a scull and crossbones next to it. The banner hung there for 10 minutes until the moment when representatives of the archdiocese destroyed this art installation and stole our piece of art.
In Maribor there is a building under construction situated opposite KIBLA Multimedia Centre. Alexey Plutser-Sarno painted there a sign reading «Nadškofija - mafija!» in 1.5-meter-high letters. Above this sign he put up pics from the first part of this action in the bell tower of the cathedral. Patriarchate committed an act of vandalism once again - they came and painted this graffiti over. That was a criminal offence on their part since they trespassed on the territory of the fest and destroyed a valuable art object. By this act they once again proved their image of a criminal organization.
Initiatives, camera, photo, montage - Alexey Plutser-Sarno, Voina Group ideologist and media artist.

Pristina, Kosovo - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Pristina
Top best places to visit in Pristina, Kosovo
Pristina is the capital and largest city of Kosovo.
Prishtina is the economic, administrative and cultural center of the country. It is called the “City of Coffee Bars” for many outdoor cafes found almost everywhere.
The Skanderbeg Square is the central plaza of town named after Albanian national hero whose statue can be found there. It is at the end of the Mother Therese Boulevard, the main pedestrian street, and next to the National Theater.
Nearby, housed in an Austria-Hungarian style building, the National Museum has a rich collection of prehistoric objects.
Tucked back in the old town streets, composed of a traditional guest house, an arts studio and a family home, is the Ethnological Museum.
Between these museums are situated two significant mosques:
The Jashar Pasha Mosque.
And the biggest and most important city mosque, the Sultan Fatih Mosque.
Opposite the Fatih Mosque is one of the best landmarks of old town, served as a means of informing the city, the Clock Tower.
In the neighborhood is another religious site, the St Nicholas Church, the only remaining operative Serbian Orthodox Church in Prishtina.
At the end of the Mother Therese Boulevard there is one more big city square, named after the Hero of Kosovo, Zahir Pajaziti.
Close to this square is the Newborn Monument, a memorial unveiled on the independence day.
And behind it is the Palace of Youth and Sports, a multipurpose arena located next to the City Stadium.
A strangely beautiful building of the National Library is even more interesting in construction, built in the campus of the University of Prishtina.
Beside the campus is the Mother Teresa Cathedral, a Roman Catholic Church currently under construction.
10km outside Pristina is the Gračanica Monastery, a crucial religious center, placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
1 hour drive from the capital is the Visoki Dečani Monastery, a major Serbian Orthodox Church also protected by UNESCO.
In Pristina it’s also worth to visit the biggest green area in a center, the City Park.
And the Park of Martyrs, a cemetery with a panoramic view of the city.
