Photographing Malta - Bad Weather and Photography
In November I travelled to Malta for 5 days, to do some landscape and cityscape photography. Unfortunately the weather was not very good, so I had to do a lot of photography in less than ideal conditions.
In this video I show you how I photograph Valletta and Mdina during blue hour and I take you along a hike I did at the Dingli Cliffs.

Street Photography On The Canon EOS RP In MALTA!
I’m spending one week in Valletta, Malta, and it looks like a great city for street photography! So, I’m heading out to do some street photography on the Canon EOS RP. Here’s how I got on…
When I first arrived in Valletta, the capital city of Malta, I saw SO many street photography opportunities. So, naturally, I picked up my Canon EOS RP and headed out. It turned out to be trickier than I'd thought because all the great street photos I'd seen seemed to have disappeared, but I still got a few street photos of Valletta that I'm happy with. More importantly, I got to see the streets of Valletta and discover just how incredible Malta's capital city is.
I shot all of this street photography on the Canon EOS RP using a 50mm f1.8 lens, 17-40mm f4 lens, and 120-400mm Sigma lens. You can find all of my gear at bit.ly/aljgear

#naturephotography #travel Photography at Barrakka Gardens, Valletta Malta
The Barrakka Gardens are located on the upper tier of St. Peter & Paul Bastion, which was built in the 1560s. The bastion's lower tier contains the Saluting Battery. The garden's terraced arches were built in 1661 by the Italian knight Fra Flaminio Balbiani. They were originally roofed, but the ceiling was removed following the Rising of the Priests in 1775.
The gardens were originally used to offer recreation to the knights of the Italian langue of the Order of Saint John, but were opened to the public following the end of the French occupation of Malta in 1800.
In the park there are several monuments and memorials to a number of prominent people, including Gerald Strickland, Sir Thomas Maitland and Sir Winston Churchill. A replica of the statue Les Gavroches (The street boys) by the Maltese sculptor Antonio Sciortino is also located in the garden. The original is to be found within the National Museum of Fine Arts.
It is the highest point of the city walls, and thus its bordering terrace offers a clear view over the Grand Harbour, the Three Cities, as well as over the shipyard and the lower-lying parts the capital.
The gardens are linked to Valletta's ditch and the nearby Lascaris Wharf by the Barrakka Lift. The first lift on the site was built in 1905, but was closed in 1973 and dismantled in 1983. The lift can be seen in operation in the 1968 British adventure film, A Twist of Sand. A new lift was inaugurated on 15 December 2012.
All photography in this video was taken with the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82.

MaltaInMyEyes photo exhibition by Giovanna Di Lauro - 4-15 july '16, Valletta, Malta
The third edition of the photographic exhibition MaltaInMyEyes, by the italian photographer Giovanna Di Lauro, will be held in Malta from 4 to 15 July 2016 at the prestigious Palazzo Ferreria, venue of the Ministry for the Family and Solidarity, located in Republic Street in Valletta.
The first successful edition has been organized in Campobasso (birth city of the Author) last November and was inaugurated at the presence of the Ambassador of Malta in Italy H.E. Ms Vanessa Frazier, the First Secretary Consul Dott . Ivan Vassallo and all the most important Authorities of Molise. On this link the images of the event done:
The second edition was held in December '15 in the most important commercial center of Molise. On this link some photos of the event:
The special feature of this photographic exhibition created by the young Author from Molise is that all the photos were taken by a simple smartphone. As a result of this, thanks to the easily of that tool, all the images give a truly striking freshness and immediacy to the viewer, who can easily enter in all the colorful emotions felt by Di Lauro during her stay in Malta.
The exhibition is patronized by: Molise Region’s Culture Department; Maltese Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity; Mediterranean Academy of Culture, Tourism and Trade; AssoMalta (association for Italo/Maltese trade); Italian Institute of Culture of Valletta; Manoel Theatre; Hermes Corporation.
This photographic exhibition is the unexpected initiative taken by the Author at the end of the stage that Di Lauro has done at the Manoel Theatre in Malta, thanks to the participation in the european mobility project ECVET-EcoTour.
Through the language of photography, this exhibition is not only a way to express the great passion of the Author for visual communication but also the way that She want use to thank the institutions and territorial organizations, italian and maltese, that have made possible the European internship experience.
The exhibition thus becomes a tangible result of the ECVET- EcoTour project and indelible mark of the emotions felt by the Author during her stay in Malta.
***
Curiosity: from a web search would seem that this is the first smartphone photos solo exhibition ever organized. Were found news only about collective exhibitions and/or arising out of competitions, like:
Author and curator of the exhibition: Giovanna Di Lauro, from Campobasso - Molise class of '85, ex tennis player of the Italian tennis junior national team, concluded the sportive career, she specializes in visual, public and business communication, with a thesis degree entitled Photographic identity: processes of reality construction through the image which earned top marks with honors from the University of Milan. She currently works with some photographic studios and advertising agencies in Italy.
