In the 2016 floods, Phurlijharan was completely destroyed including its infrastructure and approach road.

Situated just 16 KM from Bhawanipatna inside Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary, it's a famous tourist destination in Kalahandi district. It's a perennial waterfall with a height of 30 meters and an elevation of 280 meters from sea level.
