The Gran Bahia Principe Portillo is a getaway for couples, singles, and families located on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Situated on El Portillo Beach, it is walking distance from the town of Las Terrenas.
The manicured lawn of the hotel has an artificial pond with a rock fountain in its center surrounded by water lilies. The large pillared lobby has a high ceiling, marble floor, and a tropical décor with potted plants and palm trees, upholstered furniture and soft muted lights. The rooms in light shades have terra-cotta tile floors, walls adorned with paintings, and a king-size bed or double beds with bedspreads in bright island colors.
The main buffet restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There also are three specialty restaurants: The Gourmet Specialty serves a menu that features international cuisine; the Oriental Specialty has a selection of Asian dishes; the Pescador Specialty serves seafood. The Snack Bar is available for a quick bite, and the Lobby Bar and Pool Bar provide cocktails and drinks.
Kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, introductory lessons in scuba diving, tennis courts, and a gym area available. There's shopping and nightlife at Pueblo Principe, situated near the entrance of the hotel, and the Bahia Spa has a full menu of treatments, including hydrotherapy and Vichy showers.

Stay at Gran Bahia El Portillo - Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic
Las Terrenas and the Gran Bahia El Portillo 2013 - Stayed at the El Portillo for 5 days 4 Nights and it is an amazing resort. beach was really nice and quite. the resort is smaller which was pleasant for getting around and not to over crowded. A ten dollar taxi ride gets you into Las Terrenas for shopping and food.
10 out of 10 for the El portillo and more than 10 for the whole area...

Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo - Samana August 2019
Family and Friends vacation back to Grand Bahia for the 3rd time. We like the beach and corals and the food is pretty good...not the greatest but for the price it is good.

TRAVEL TIPS
Take an extra bank card and credit card with you. It’s always good to have a backup.
Make sure to use no-fee bank cards
Get a credit card and debit card that doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee or an ATM fee.
Get travel insurance
Travel insurance is the most important thing you get that you never want to use. If something goes wrong, you don’t want to be out
thousands of dollars in bills. It will be there if you get robbed, flights get cancelled, you get sick or injured, or have to be sent
home. It’s comprehensive and, for just a few dollars a day, one of the best investments you can get for a trip.
Don’t change your currency at the airport
That’s where you’ll get the worst exchange rates.
When you check in to the hotel, don’t be afraid to ask for an upgrade.
They have a lot of flexibility when it comes to assigning upgrades at check-in. It never hurts to ask. Often times they can
accommodate you if the hotel isn’t full.
Book flights 2-3 months in advance to get the best price.
Bundle your hotel and flight booking.
Booking your flight and hotel together can sometimes lead to savings.
It can often lead to savings on both hotels and flights.

Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort - Beach & beachfront - Dominican Republic
This is the beach and beachfront area of the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive resort located just outside of Las Terrenas, in the Samaná Province of the Dominican Republic. This video is useful for travelers planning a trip to this all-inclusive hotel who may want to have a look at the beach and beachfront area before making a decision as to whether or not to choose this particular all-inclusive resort.
The footage starts around the beaches we pass the beach bar and then continue to the hotel Jacuzzi area. From the Jacuzzi area we make our way over to the resorts main swimming pool. We walk through the swimming pool area over towards the swimming pool bar (all drinks are free as this is an all inclusive resort). From the swimming pool we start to make our way towards the beach, via the beach towel cottage and then passed the pool tables in the direction of the beach bar again.Once we arrive on the beach we take you on a walk through the resorts beach in an easterly direction (the resorts beach is where all the resorts sun chairs are, hotel guests should be aware that all beaches are public beaches in the Dominican Republic). The footage takes guests all the way to the end of the beach (if we where to pass further we would have to sign a form with the security guard stating that we are now leaving the hotel area). Once at the end of the beach we once again start to make our way back to where we started in a westerly direction zig zagging through sun chairs and umbrellas.
