Santa Ponsa is a coastal town in western Mallorca (Majorca), a Spanish island. The main beach, Platja de Santa Ponça, is backed by a promenade with bars and restaurants. Southwest, the quieter Caló d’en Pellicer lies in a small cove. Puig de sa Morisca is a hilltop archaeological site dating back to the Late Bronze Age. To the north, La Reserva Puig de Galatzó is a forested nature park with eagles and mountain views.

Im Südwesten der Baleareninsel Mallorca liegt in der Stadt Santa Ponsa der Gemeinde Calvia der weitläufige Strand Playa de Santa Ponsa. Er befindet sich einige hundert Meter innerhalb einer Bucht, was dafür sorgt, dass das Wasser sehr ruhig ist.
Der Strand ist 7 km von Calvia und etwa 20 km von der Hauptstadt der Insel Palma entfernt und liegt zwischen der Seniorenresidenz Es Castellot und dem Strand Calo d`en Pellicer.
Playa Santa Ponsa bildet das Zentrum der touristisch geprägten Stadt Santa Ponsa. Neben unzähligen Hotelgebäuden sind hier auch die Ausläufer des Tramuntana-Gebirges zu sehen, die Berge bieten guten Kontrast zu dem bebauten Teil des Strandes.

Santa Ponsa, Majorca, a day at the beach
A late low season getaway to Santa Ponsa in Majorca, one of Spain's Balearic Islands, in late October. Luckily the weather, after a bad storm delayed landing was great 22 to 24 c. A nice trip or two to the beach and some good resturants to fill me up for several nights at a karaoke bar. Enjoy!

Santa Ponsa Calvià Majorca Spain Drone Summer 2017
Santa Ponsa (Catalan and officially: Santa Ponça) is a town in the south-west of Majorca. Located in the municipality of Calvià, it is 18 kilometres from the capital Palma.
Santa Ponsa derives its name from a Roman villa called Sancta Pontia. Santa Ponsa is where King James I of Aragon (Jaume in Catalan) landed on September 12, 1229 in his successful quest to conquer the island and take it from the Moors after more than 300 years of Muslim rule. Majorca became part of the Kingdom of Aragon following James's conquest, and was later annexed to the Kingdom of Spain. A cross at the entrance to the marina marks the spot where James landed. Every September there is a grand fiesta to commemorate the landing with a mock battle between the Moors and Christians on the beach. It is a two-week fiesta which incorporates a pop concert and firework display.
The town is popular holiday destination and attracts people from countries with colder climates such as Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland and Great Britain, especially from May to October. Some have bought villas and apartments in the hills on each side of the bay.
