PONMUDI DAM
Location direction
Ponmudi dam is about 25 kms from Munnar town ( towards Adimali direction ) . After travelling 8-9 kms towards Adimali from Munnar , take a sharp left turn towards Munnar bypass road to Anachal . From Anachal , follow Anachal-kunchithanni road to reach the dam ( 12-13 kms) . Roads are narrow but in good condition . Ponmudi is a small dam and less crowded tourist place with boating facility available for tourists . Ponmudi dam can be reached by bus also (this dam is on the way to Rajakkad ). To reach the boating point and view point from dam ,four wheel drive vehicles or jeeps will be the best option . My visit to this place was during mid of October and there was not enough water in the reservoir and because of this no outflow from the dam . Travelers are advised to visit this place during rainy season . Another tourist attraction on the way to ponmudi dam is SN falls . Along with Ponmudi dam visit , chengulam dam can also be combined while returning to Anachal through an alternate route .

Ponmudi Is a Dam Area Near in the Idukki district, State of Kerala, India, is a hydroelectric project constructed across the Panniar River, a tributary of the Periyar River which is the longest river in Kerala.
The dam, located near Munnar on the Panniar River in the Periyar River valley in Kerala, is part of the basin of the West flowing rivers of the Tadri to Kanyakumari. The nearest city is Udumbanchola. Mattupetty to Ponmudi Dam is a distance of 39 kilometres (24 mi).

ഇടുക്കി ജല വൈദ്യുത പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന മൂന്ന് അണക്കെട്ടുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ചെറുതോണി അണക്കെട്ട്. ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ട്, കുളമാവ് അണക്കെട്ട് എന്നിവയാണ് മറ്റു രണ്ട് അണക്കെട്ടുകൾ. എല്ലാ അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെയും ഭാഗമായി 60 കിലോമീറ്റർ ചുറ്റളവിലാണ് ജലസംഭരണ പരിധി. ഇതൊരു ഭാരാശ്രിത അണക്കെട്ടാണ്. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഉയരത്തിൽ മൂന്നാമതാണ് ഈ അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം[1]. 1976 - ൽ നിർമ്മാണം പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ഈ അണക്കെട്ട് സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്നും 3900 അടി ഉയരത്തിലാണ് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഹിന്ദുസ്ഥാൻ കൺസ്ട്രക്ഷൻ കമ്പനിയാണ് ഈ അണക്കെട്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ചത്. വിനോദസഞ്ചാര ഭാഗമായി ചെറുതോണി അണക്കെട്ടിനും കുളമാവ് അണക്കെട്ടിനും ഇടയിലായി ബോട്ടിങ് സൗകര്യം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഓണം, ക്രിസ്മസ് എന്നീ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളീൽ ചെറുതോണി, ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ടുകൾക്കു മുകളിലൂടെ സന്ദർശകർക്കു പ്രവേശനാനുമതി കൊടുക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഈ സന്ദർഭത്തിൽ മാത്രമാണ് ബോട്ടിങ്ങ് നടത്താനും കഴിയുന്നത്. അനുവദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാലയളവിലും അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പ്രത്യേക അനുമതിയോടെയും മാത്രമേ അണക്കെട്ടിനു മുകളിൽ പ്രവേശനം ലഭിക്കുകയുള്ളു. ജലസംഭരണിയിലെ (ഇടുക്കി, ചെറുതോണി, കുളമാവ് അണക്കെട്ടുകൾ കൂടിച്ചേർന്ന് രൂപം കൊടുത്തിട്ടുള്ള റിസർവ്വോയറിലെ )ജലവിതാനം ഉയരുമ്പോൾ ചെറുതോണി അണക്കെട്ട് വഴിയാണ് അധികജലം പുറത്തേക്കൊഴുക്കുക.
