Montevideo, Uruguay Seen from a Cruise
Montevideo is the capital city of Uruguay. Its name comes from the “mount at sight” sentence in french. It has a big hill -named El Cerro- where a fortress is located. Summarizing: it is a mini-Buenos Aires, which a French and Spanish 1900s Architecture, a big park, lots of museums and cultural life. The most noticeable difference with the Argentinian capital is that you can swim and bathe in its shores. It has grown a lot lately, mostly because of Argentinian investments, as the economy of my country has unendlessly sunk in the last ten years. It is a quieter place to live and the people are overall more benevolent. I’ve read that the Eclipse made some port calls there during her further trips, it is a pity it didn’t this time. Eclipse -I haven’t said it so far- is traveling South America for the first time, doing also her first incursions into the Antartica. Uruguay is far a better place to live than Argentina, that has become an economic and social nightmare. The montevideans have a practicably indistinctive accent from that of buenos aires, and a bit different from that of the people of Maldonado and Rocha, where the prettiest beaches of Uruguay are found.

Uruguay seizes record 6 tonnes of cocaine at port and ranch

Uruguay says it has seized a record haul of 6 tonnes of cocaine, calling it the biggest setback for traffickers in the country's history.
Naval and customs officers seized 4.4 tonnes of the drug in Montevideo port. It had been hidden in four soy flour containers destined for Lome, the capital of Togo.
Another 1.5 tonnes was later found on a ranch, local reports said.
The drugs have an estimated total street value of about $1.3bn (£1bn).
Uruguay is increasingly being used as a transit point to move drugs from Latin America to Africa and Europe.
The country's previous record haul was in November, when authorities uncovered a container with three tonnes of cocaine, also in Montevideo, bound for Cotonou in Benin via the Spanish island of Tenerife.

President Nelson Continues South America Ministry Tour in Uruguay
President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with missionaries and members during a visit to Uruguay’s capital city of Montevideo, Thursday, October 25, 2018, the fourth location in his five-country ministry tour of South America. The port city is home to colonial architecture and the country’s only Latter-day Saint temple.
President Nelson, regarded as a prophet of God by Latter-day Saint faithful, embarked on a nine-day journey nearly a week ago with his wife, Wendy, and Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Lesa.
Missionaries from the Montevideo and Montevideo West Missions were able to spend some time with the global Church leaders Thursday afternoon. In the evening, a devotional was held at the Landia Complex, which was broadcast throughout Uruguay.
