PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, STREET FOOD IN PRAGUE, 2019
PRAGUE,CZECH REPUBLIC, STREET FOOD IN PRAGUE, 2019, Prague is the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic, the 14th largest city in the European Union and the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated on the Vltava river, Prague is home to about 1.3 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of 2.6 million. The city has a temperate oceanic climate, with relatively warm summers and chilly winters.
Prague is a political, cultural and economic centre of central Europe complete with a rich history. Founded during the Romanesque and flourishing by the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras, Prague was the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia and the main residence of several Holy Roman Emperors, most notably of Charles IV. It was an important city to the Habsburg Monarchy and its Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city played major roles in the Bohemian and Protestant Reformation, the Thirty Years' War and in 20th-century history as the capital of Czechoslovakia between the World Wars and the post-war Communist era.
Prague is home to a number of well-known cultural attractions, many of which survived the violence and destruction of 20th-century Europe. Main attractions include Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter, Petřín hill and Vyšehrad. Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
The city has more than ten major museums, along with numerous theatres, galleries, cinemas and other historical exhibits. An extensive modern public transportation system connects the city. It is home to a wide range of public and private schools, including Charles University in Prague, the oldest university in Central Europe.
Prague is classified as an Alpha − global city according to GaWC studies and ranked sixth in the Tripadvisor world list of best destinations in 2016. In 2019, the city was ranked as 69th most liveable city in the world. Its rich history makes it a popular tourist destination and as of 2017, the city receives more than 8.5 million international visitors annually. In 2017 Prague was listed as the fifth most visited European city after London, Paris, Rome and Istanbul., During the thousand years of its existence, Prague grew from a settlement stretching from Prague Castle in the north to the fort of Vyšehrad in the south, to become the capital of a modern European country.

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC - I was excited to visit Prague, a city I’ve been wanting to visit for many years. In this video, we’re going on an ultimate Czech food tour of Prague, and doing a full walking tour of the attractions and center of the city along the way. #Prague #CzechRepublic #CzechFood
Café Savoy - For one of the most historical and beautiful restaurants and cafes in all of Prague, head to Café Savoy. It’s one of those restaurants that’s as much a museum as it is a restaurant. It’s a good place to have breakfast, or to have coffee. I had the Czech style breakfast set. Total price - 685 CZK ($29.62)
Párek v rohlíku – Ladislav Červený - If there’s one Czech street food your don’t want to miss, it’s sausages and hotdogs. And after doing some research, I discovered that not too far from where I was staying, was a popular local hotdog stall just outside the metro station. What was amazing to me is that the bun was toasted on the inside, but the outside of the bun was so soft. Great hotdogs, well worth going out of your way to eat when you’re in Prague. Price - 25 CZK ($1.08) per hotdog
Restaurace U Bansethů - My favorite type of food to eat is classic, traditional food, anywhere I travel. Restaurace U Bansethů is a restaurant with over 100 years of history, and I was very excited to go there. Menu was all in Czech, but our waiter was friendly and helpful. Something you have to note about Czech food restaurants (at least in my experience so far) is that they often have dishes of the day, and don’t have the full menu. So it’s best to choose the dishes of the day. I ordered their signature stuffed duck, a plate of tongue and dumplings, and we also tried a beef stew, which was similar to goulash, but had a different name. Food was delicious, and especially paired with Czech beer. 477 CZK ($20.62) - Total price for everything
Lahůdky Zlatý kříž - Next up on this ultimate Prague food tour, we headed back to the center of Prague and I ordered a few Czech open faced sandwiches from Lahůdky Zlatý kříž. Great local place to get food on the go. 77 CZK ($3.33)
Zahradní restaurace Letenský zámeček - Next, we headed on a little walk across the river and up the hill to a beer garden and terrance overlooking old town of Prague. I would highly recommend visiting, the ambiance was fantastic, and the views were spectacular.
Lokál - Beer Restaurant - Finally, when I reached out to you on social media about where to eat in Prague, one of the top suggestions was Lokál, a place loved by all for their great Czech beer, and for their food. We had a great experience, and it’s the type of place that would be fun to go with many friends. 726 CZK ($31.39)
Thank you for watching this ultimate Czech food tour of Prague, Czech Republic!

EATING CZECH FOOD - Goulash, Fried Cheese & Pilsner Beer in Prague
Eating Czech Food : Goulash, Fried Cheese & Pilsner Beer in Prague
I have a confession to make. When I discover a restaurant I love while on the road I often return multiple times. There have been a few cases where I've come back daily and I sometimes even frequent the same place multiple times in one day!

Since arriving in Prague I've discovered a gem of a local pub where I can't seem to get enough of their generous portions of goulash and cheaper than water frothy Pilsner ale.
Goulash is a stew (or soup) consisting of meat, noodles, vegetables and other ingredients seasoned with paprika and other spices typically smothered in a thick gravy sauce.
The reason I'm so enamored by this particular local pub is that it is frequented almost exclusively by locals. Unlike 'tourist restaurants' nearby the old quarter, servers here speak limited English, only special English menus exist and prices are literally half or a third of what I'd pay elsewhere. I almost forget to mention that the food is undeniably delicious and the portions are generous.
The perfect complement to the Czech goulash (gulyás) is a pint of Pilsner and Czech dumplings (hovězí guláš s knedlíkem) and/or Czech bread (knedlíky) to mop up the gravy.
Pilsner, one of my favorite beers from around the world, has a golden color, light taste and high level of froth. Deriving its name from the city of Plzeň, Bohemia, Czech Republic in 1842, it is a popular beer both domestically and abroad.
I almost forgot to mention the appetizer, Czech fried cheese (Smažený sýr) usually either Hermelin or Edam breaded and fried. This was a nice salty addition to the meal that we both thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall, we enjoyed the afternoon bar patio setting with great food, local prices and a fun atmosphere. When visiting Prague be sure to check out a local pub specializing in traditional Czech cuisine.
It is a beautiful day here in Prague. We are having an early dinner outdoors in the patio. And of course, when in Prague, you have to eat Czech food. We're going to be introducing you to some new dishes.
We've found this awesome local little place right across from our apartment and we've been coming here daily.
In my hand here I've got myself a Pilsner beer. This is like an Czech institution. It is known for its golden color and high level of foam and a nice light taste. Okay. Take a drink already.
The best thing about it - it is cheaper than water and cola.
Chug. Chug. Chug.
And you know I'll be having more than one.
We got ourselves a fun little appetizer here. It is three different kinds of fried cheese and I found this on the vegetarian side of the menu. Let's taste test it.
This looks nice and creamy and it is a little green inside. It might be blue cheese. I can't tell what kind of cheese it is. It has been breaded in bread crumbs, it is nice and gooey and melt-y inside. Is it tasty? It is definitely tasty.
Let's try another.
This one over here looks like it might be brie just from judging from the insides.
Time to try it. Well? That is delicious. Deep-fried cheese, I'm a fan.
Up next we have a big plate of goulash. Now goulash is actually Hungarian but the Czech Republic does have its own variety. What differs between the two is that the Hungarian is usually served with meat, noodles and vegetables and the one from the Czech Republic only has meat, so let's dig in.
The cool thing here is you can try the goulash with either potato cakes or steamed bread. We've got the dumplings right now.
It is just such a lovely gravy here. This is honestly the best goulash I've tried anywhere. And you've been eating it here every single day for lunch and dinner right?

Taste of Prague - What Czechs Eat
During our recent tour of the Czech Republic, where we spent about a week exploring Czech food and Czech wine, we took a morning Prague food tour. During our tour (yes during it) we sat down and shared some beers with Jans, of Taste of Prague food tours.
Over the course of our tour, we learned an amazing amount about the history of Czech food, a lot of which we had never heard before, even on prior trips to Prague. Jans also talked about the trends in Czech cuisine. We also drank beer. And talked about beer. And meet. But, isn't that part of traveling in the Czech Republic?
This is just a sampling of the food we ate during our Taste of Prague food tour!
