Prescot is a town and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley in Merseyside, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it lies about eight miles to the east of Liverpool city centre. At the 2001 Census, the civil parish population was 11,184 (5,265 males, 5,919 females). The population of the larger Prescot East and West wards at the 2011 census totalled 14,139. Prescot marks the beginning of the A58 road which runs through to Wetherby, West Yorkshire. The town is served by Prescot railway station and Eccleston Park railway station.
Prescot's name is believed to be derived from the Anglo-Saxon prēost priest + cot cot, meaning a cottage or small house owned or inhabited by a priest, a priest-cottage. (ME prest, preste, priest, OE prēost, LL presbyter, Gk πρεσβύτερος presbýteros elder, priest). From the mid-1590s to 1609, Prescot was home to the Prescot Playhouse, a purpose-built Shakespearean theatre, probably located on Eccleston Street.
During the 18th and 19th centuries it was at the centre of the watch and clock making industry. This ended with the failure of the Lancashire Watch Company in 1910. In later years the BICC company was the primary industrial employer in the town. BICC ceased operations in Prescot in the early 1990s before the site was demolished and later cleared. The land remained desolate until the year 2000 when it was then regenerated into what is now known as Cable's Retail Park, the name of which is a reference to the BICC and the history of the site on which it was built.
Prescot Museum houses a permanent exhibition about the history of clock- and watch-making in the town, and several temporary exhibitions per year. The Georgian building is now also home to Knowsley Council's Arts and Events Service.
On the edge of the town is the famous estate of Lord Derby, which includes Knowsley Safari Park. In recent years, a number of cultural and arts events have been established in the town, including the annual 10-day Prescot Festival of Music and the Arts and an annual Elizabethan Fayre.
The Shakespeare North Trust promotes William Shakespeare's historic connection with the town, a subject being researched at Liverpool's John Moores University. Inspired by the historic Prescot Playhouse, the Trust plans to build the Shakespeare North complex in Prescot, including a Shakespearean playhouse and an educational centre. In April 2016, Knowsley Council granted planning permission for the new playhouse.

Prescot & District Model Engineering Society Members' Running Day Sunday September 29th 2002
Prescot & District Model Engineering Society Members' Running Day, Sunday 22nd September 2002. Present on this day is Peter Adderley and his 'Maisie’ loco, a design by LBSC, and it is in steam.
Things to note about ‘Maisie’ ;-
(1) This is a model of the Large Boilered Atlantic 4-4-2 locomotive, basically a 3 1/2 inch gauge version of LBSC's Ayesha 2) The mechanical blower seems to be stopping the locomotive's steam blower from working properly? 3) The regulator is a rather difficult to control on or off affair with no variable control really possible, reason unknown 4) the coupling chain kept hanging down and banging against the rail spacers / ties, and was offset diagonally and vertically from where it should have been, as far as I can tell 5) there is no cab 6) this loco' doesn't appear to have been built by Peter, he is just the owner, and I believe he mentions that he doesn't know how old the model is (correct me if I'm wrong here Peter), other than that it is a rather splendid model with nice paint finish and lining and lettering, and a very good steamer, the blower being particularly effective.
This is Prescot in NW England where we had a 330 feet oval of track there from 2001 until about 2008 at BICC / Prismian / Pirelli Cables Social club at Scotch Barn Lane, that we were leasing part of (disused tennis court in our case). You can still see a historical image of where the track was on Google Earth, using the time rewind facility, from 2005, on the corner of where Scotchbarn lane meets Sinclair Avenue.

Prescot & District Model Engineering Society’s Member’s Running Day of March 31st 2002.
Present on this day are: Norman Matthews’ “Princess Marina” (design by LBSC) LMS 2-6-0 which he built in 1962 to 1966 (it was Norman's first loco that he built) running as LMS number 13269, Dave Houghton’s Blue Hunslet loco (a Don Young design called Hunslette), Alan Creswell’s identical maroon Hunslet loco, Geoff Davies’ Britannia large green loco (design by LBSC). These loco’s were all in steam. All are 3 1/2 inch gauge. The anti-tip rail has recently been welded to this elevated track by Alan.
This is Prescot in North West England. There was a 330 feet oval of track there from 2001 until about 2008 when the BICC / Prismian / Pirelli Cables Social club and Leisure grounds at Scotch Barn Lane, Prescot that we were leasing part of (a long disused tennis court in our case) was sold to developers to build houses on, then we were told to vacate the grounds, and our track got put into a large Council container stored away and our club house was vandalised and burned down. A terrible shame and a major loss to modelers in the North West. You can still see a historical image of where the track was on Google Earth, using the time rewind facility, from 2005, on the corner of where Scotchbarn lane meets Sinclair Avenue.

A Right Royal Tea Party at Prescot Museum (2012)
Locals in Knowsley were invited to a Right Royal Tea Party with artist Pui Lee at Prescot Museum on 2nd June 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. The drop-in art workshop included bunting making, crown making and drawing designs for commemorative Jubilee plates. The families also enjoyed lots of afternoon tea and light refreshments in between their art making and there was certainly plenty of banter and laughs during the session! Great fun! :-)

Saabfest 2018 was held at Prescott Hillclimb home of the Bugatti Owners Club
