Travel to England
Planning a visit to England makes good sense, as its an excellent base from which to explore Europe. You can't experience the culture and sites of the whole of England in just one trip, but it is the one place that certainly features on every travellers itinerary.
Our travel guide showcases Englands many different faces. We will help you find all the interesting places to see in England, and provide information about tourist attractions and things to do.
London is the capital of England and is Englands biggest city. Tourism in England has great contrast. England has buzzing city life, yet lonely landscapes; traditional customs, yet ultramodern culture; exquisite beaches, and craggy mountains.
Whether youre on a cultural sightseeing tour, or want to enjoy a night out on the town, London has everything to make your tour a fulfilling experience.
There are many historic buildings, cathedrals and landmarks. Some of the most exciting places to visit include Lake District, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London (home to the Crown Jewels), Stonehenge, Alton Towers, The Roman Baths, the Temple of Sulis Minerva, and Windsor Castle.
Other chief attractions that might take your fancy are the Oxford and Cambridge universities, the London Palladium and the London Coliseum (just two of many famous theatres in London), Londons Madam Tussauds Wax Museum, and the industrial cities of Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester.
You can visit England any time of the year, but the best month is September when the weather is fair, and England is less crowded with tourists, but be sure to still take an umbrella and a waterproof jacket, especially when visiting London.
The most popular sports in England are football and cricket, and if youre lucky, you might get to watch a live game or match while there. For the more adventurous, England also offers hang gliding, paragliding, and rock climbing.
You can save time and money by using our travel guide to help you to identify what it is that you would best like to do and see in England.
UK Roadtrip - June 2018
London to Oxford [stayed for one night]:
Accommodation: Ye Olde Swan Tipi Village, Camping. Cost: £5pp (regardless of pitches). Lovely pub owner, beautiful views up the River Thames.
What we did: Visited Oxford for one day which was enough time. Had a bbq at the campsite - owners didn’t mind.
Oxford to Bath [stayed for one night]:
Accommodation: Stayed at a friend’s.
What we did: Drove to Cheddar Gorge. Had Sally Lunn’s Buns. Wished we had more time there! Should have separated Bath and Cheddar into two separate days.
Bath to Bristol [stayed for one night]:
Accommodation: AirBNB in Bristol centre. Cost: £26.79pp. Very nice place, good location.
What we did: Not alot! Bristol was not particularly fun and didn’t have much to do indoors despite it raining cats and dogs. Wouldn’t visit again.
Bristol to Cardiff [stayed for 2 nights]:
Accommodation: Youth Hostel Association Cardiff Central. Cost: £15.50pp. A bit out of the way but has free parking.
What we did: Went out in Cardiff central. Very cheap drinks. Got hammered! Could easily do a long weekend here or an extra night.
Cardiff to Pembrokeshire [stayed for 2 nights]:
Accommodation: Shortlands Farm. Cost: £8pp. Absolutely stunning location. Right near a private beach that was almost empty all day. A bit of a hike but so worth it. Second night stayed at a friend’s.
What we did: Visited the beach. Visited Hilton Court Gardens - completely beautiful. Would stay in Pembrokeshire for 3 nights next time.
Pembrokeshire to Snowdonia [stayed for 2 nights]:
Accommodation: YHA Snowdon Llanberis. Cost: £13pp, one night. Nice place, perfect location for climbing Snowdon. The Heights Bunkhouse. Cost: £15pp, one night. Good location, but not a good place to stay. No bedding included and food very poor in the pub.
What we did: Climbed Snowdon - absolutely breathtaking. Tried some epic ice-cream. Went kayaking around Llyn Padarn Lake. Expensive but very beautiful.
Snowdonia - Liverpool [stayed for one night]:
Accommodation: Campanile Liverpool. Cost: £16pp. Nice place, a bit out of the way.
What we did: Went to Woody’s Karaoke Bar - very fun place and not expensive to drink there. Lovely staff. Would have loved to spend an extra night in Liverpool. On a previous trip, we went to Knowsley Safari park which was surprisingly such a good day out for the price.
Liverpool to Lake District [stayed for 2 nights]:
Accommodation: Pound Farm Park. Cost: £13.33pp. Lovely place, great hosts.
What we did: The World of Beatrix Potter attraction. It was phenomenal! We had afternoon tea here! Had BBQs outside our pod at the accommodation.
Lake District to Newcastle [didn’t end up staying]
When we arrived in newcastle, there were so much roadworks and diversions that we couldn’t find a single place to park. Traffic lasted for hours so we continued our journey to Whitby instead.
Newcastle to Whitby [stayed for 2 nights]:
Accommodation: YHA Whitby. Cost: £23.65pp. The best accommodation we’ve stayed in with regards to location. Attached to the old abbey. The hostel is in a huge old fashioned house.
What we did: Visited the town, did a boat ride on a pirate ship, did the silly Dracula attraction, had chips in gravy, went to a rooftop bar, visited the abbey. Would stay for longer on a stand alone holiday.
Whitby to York [stayed for one night]:
Accommodation: YHA York. Cost: £15pp. Nice place, a bit far out from the centre.
What we did: Jorvik Viking Centre; really good, informative and fun. York Dungeons - better than London Dungeons!
York to Leeds [stayed for two nights]:
Accommodation: AirBNB just out of the centre. Cost: £19.50pp. Out of the centre, fantastic host.
What we did: Went to open mic, went to various pubs. Not much to do here. Would have skipped it and spent an extra day in York instead.

The Peak District is an upland area in England at the southern end of the Pennines. Chinese Lunar New Year | Philly Travel Vlog | D.J. Yellets
I took a mini day trip to Philly for the Chinese Lunar New Year. As it turns out, most of the festivities (like the parade) happened the night before. Regardless, I check out Chinatown and walk around Philly a little going to places such as Elfreth's Alley, the oldest street in America which is still inhabited. Every time I go to Philly, I HAVE to spend some time at the Ben Franklin Bridge. I also went to this cool little museum dedicated to chemistry that was free and open to the public.
