Marfa,Tx.-Border Patrol Sector Headquarters (2) 3-7-18
Video 2 of 4 on my border trip which ended badly.
I had some time to kill in Marfa before the sun went down and I went to try and get pics of the Marfa lights. I saw this place and dropped by for some quick video. The interaction towards the end is complete and unedited. Next stop is the border town of Presidio to catch the sun going down over the border crossing..thats where things begin to unravel. I had no expectation things would be any different than what you see in this video-surely did not expect to be ambushed by the Border Patrol.

Marfa and Presidio County, Texas by Louise O'Connor and Cecilia Thompson
Authors Louise S. O'Connor and Cecilia Thompson present a simple encyclopedic study of the Trans-Pecos area of Texas with emphasis on Presidio County
VICTORIA, Texas — In their quest to complete their study and to share a better knowledge and understanding of a part of Texas that is still somewhat a frontier, authors Louise S. O'Connor and Cecilia Thompson reveal the first volume of their book Marfa and Presidio County, Texas: A Social, Economic, and Cultural Study 1937 to 2008 Volume One, 1937 - 1989. In a book that offers a closer look at the past and the present, readers will see how a place known as a tourist area and a center of contemporary art came to be. It returns to the pre-historic era of Far West Texas and bring readers up to the present with yearly reports on the region as well as extensive formal research and personal interviews with present day people who live in Presidio County.
A case study worth reading, this book is an eye-opener for a better understanding of how this small yet historically rich land is what it is now. Packed with the economic, social, and cultural history of Presidio County; this book gives readers, both lay and the historians, a clear and complete picture of the events that lead to the preservation, industrialization, and the improvement of one of the frontiers of the United States of America.

In the early 1970's, Judd transformed WW II buildings into a compound for artists which continues today. The Book Company is the heart of Marfa where talented people meet, plan and exchange ideas. Great place to browse, slow down and breathe. Grab lunch at the Food Shark. Great Falafel. Around dark, drive a few miles outside of town to view the infamous Marfa Lights and share stories of aliens or unexplainable (no one can determine why) phenomenon. Take in some history at the beautiful Presidio County Courthouse. As artist Sam Schonzeit said ...you can breathe here.
Opps... Charles Bassett built the El Paisano Hotel in 1930, not 1920 as Annie says on the video.

2-14-14 Air Transports, Changes to Presidio EMS Reduce Fatalities CBS 7 News
Up until recently, an average of 50 patients died each year within 24 hours of being transported by ambulance from the remote city of Presidio to the nearest hospital in Alpine. With such a small population and as part of a tri-county one hospital deal, Presidio was not chosen as a site for a hospital.
Changes at the city's airport now allow for rapid air transit, and it's already cut the number of fatalities dramatically.
