Flying Australia - Drysdale River National Park
This video was filmed on 5th June 2015 using a GoPro Hero 3+ attached to the left wing strut of Cessna 172 VH-ICH. The footage commences within the Drysdale River National Park, intersecting the Drysdale River approximately 220 kms north west of Kununurra in Western Australia. After tracking a short distance downstream my course takes me over Solea Falls, then, following a 180 degree turn, back upstream again. My path continues to follow the river in a general southerly direction for approximately 55 kms before heading west to intersect the Carson River at the northern end of the Carson River Escarpment. Video footage concludes near the southern end of the escarpment.

Things to do in Kununurra. Mirima National Park
Often referred to as a mini version of the Bungle Bungle range, Mirima National Park is located in the town of Kununurra.
Mirima National Park offers bushwalking and stunning views over the East Kimberley.
It’s fascinating rock formations were deposited up to 350 million years ago and it is often referred to as a mini Bungle Bungle range.
Mirima is a culturally significant place for the local Miriwoong people. For thousands of years the natural features of Mirima have attracted the local Aboriginal people. The rock formations provide shelter, rock holes provide permanent water and plants and animals are used for food, tools and medicine. Cultural ceremonies continue to be performed at special sites within the park.

Nothing can fully prepare you for the dramatic contrasts of Australia's north-west, rich in Aboriginal culture and galleries of ancient artwork.
Towards the west, in the historic pearling town of Broome, the colours of nature are vibrant and intense: rich red earth, azure blue seas and brilliant white sand beaches.
North of Broome lies the ragged Kimberley coast, a place you can only comprehend from the sea. Rugged gorges, inlets, waterfalls plunging 100 metres all combine for an awe-inspiring experience you simply can't have by travelling overland..

Wet and Wild: Frogs of the Kimberley
Presented by Dr Paul Doughty, Curator of Herpetology, Western Australian Museum.
Part of the WA Museum’s 2014 In the Wild West Lecture Series
The Kimberley region of Western Australia receives summer rains during its 'wet season'. Given the many environments of the region, from savannah plains to rugged sandstone outcrops, this has resulted in a great diversity of frog species, resulting in the most frog-rich area of the state. The main types of frogs in the area are the conspicuous tree frogs, several species of rockhole frogs, burrowing frogs, sedge frogs and an especially rich group of ground-dwelling species.
Join Dr Paul Doughty as he presents a 'who's who' of these species, and highlights recent discoveries with more species to be described.
Rangelands Natural Resource Management is the Presenting Partner of the 2014 In the Wild West series.
