YEREVAN, Armenia: Top sights and attractions of the Pink City (2016)
TURN ON SUBTITLES FOR EXPLANATORY NOTES ABOUT THE SIGHTS AND ATTRACTIONS!!
(I am aware of the fact that this video does not have my audio commentary, so I added explanatory subtitles! This was my very first video on YouTube and I have been trying to improve things.)
A weekend in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia
Yerevan is the capital of Armenia, a country located in the Caucasus, bordering Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran. It is largest city of Armenia as well as one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities.
In addition to this video, also check out my blog post 10 reasons why I fell in love with Yerevan, Armenia:
In this video, you will see Yerevan's most important sights and tourist attractions, including the following:
Republic Square can be considered the main square of Yerevan. The Government House, the History Museum and the National Gallery, the Marriott Hotel and several other government buildings are located on this huge square. Originally designed by Alexander Tamanyan in 1924, Republic Square is the favorite hangout of the locals. With its unique pink neoclassical buildings and the reflecting pool, Republic Square can easily be considered Yerevan’s architectural highlight. What I found remarkable about this square was the unified architectural style – all buildings share the same pink-ish and yellow-ish neoclassical design.
The Cascade is a staircase that connects Yerevan’s center (Kentron) with the Monument neighborhood. It consists of multiple levels and a total of 572 steps. Apart from its architectural magnificence, the Cascade offers sweeping views of the city and, on clear days, mighty Mount Ararat in the background.
The Cafesjian Center for the Arts is an arts museum located within the Cascade complex. It offers a variety of exhibitions and dozens of modern and contemporary sculptures by well-known international sculptors. The sculptures are scattered around Cascade Park, the green area in the lower section of the Cascade complex.

STORYLINE:
Russian President Vladimir Putin was the last one to arrive at Guatemala City two days ahead of a vote to decide whether Sochi on the Black Sea will host the 2014 winter Olympics.
He was met at the airport by the Guatemalan Foreign Minister Gert Rosenthal and the president of the organising committee for the International Olympics Committee (IOC), Willi Kaltschmitt.
The heads of state of the competitor countries, Austria and South Korea are already in town.
On Tuesday Putin will meet with his Guatemalan counterpart Oscar Berger.
The International Olympic Committee will vote on Wednesday to decide whether Sochi, Salzburg in Austria or Pyeongchang in South Korea will host the 2014 winter olympics.
Outside the hotel where the vote will take place there has been a noticeable increase in the amount of security.
Meanwhile, each candidate city has been doing its best to stand out.
The South Koreans say that giving Pyeongchang the chance to host the Olympic games would pave the way to the reunification of the Korean peninsula.
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun has already paid a visit to President Berger to lobby in favour of his city.
The Austrians believe that they have the most experience in hosting winter sporting events, making Salzburg the best choice.
The Russians have been focussing on security, saying Russia would be the most effective in providing security measures for the participants.

SUMMARY
=======
The history of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, dates back to at least the 5th century AD. Since its foundation by the monarch of Georgia's ancient precursor Kingdom of Iberia, Tbilisi has been an important cultural, political and economic center of the Caucasus and served, with intermissions, as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Under the Russian rule, from 1801 to 1917 it was called Tiflis and held the seat of the Imperial Viceroy governing both sides of the entire Caucasus.Tbilisi's proximity to lucrative east-west trade routes often made the city a point of contention between various rival empires, and its location to this day ensures an important transit role. Tbilisi's varied history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, classical, and Soviet structures.
