Cairns is a city in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It is on the east coast of Far North Queensland. The city is the 5th-most-populous in Queensland and ranks 14th overall in Australia. Cairns was founded in 1876 and named after William Wellington Cairns, Governor of Queensland from 1875 to 1877. It was formed to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, but declined when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. It later developed into a railhead and major port for exporting sugar cane, gold and other metals, minerals and agricultural products from surrounding coastal areas and the Atherton Tableland region. The population of the Cairns urban area at the 2016 Census was 144,787. Based on 2015 data, the associated local government area has experienced an average annual growth rate of 2.3% over the last 10 years. Cairns is a popular tourist destination because of its tropical climate and access to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

The weather has been terrible lately. Finally had a decent day so I had to make a trip to the beach. Queensland beach isn't far from me so it is great spot to go for a quick trip.

Seals, sand & sunsets. What more do you need to make a great evening on the beach?

No hiking video this week as I had to work on Saturday. On Sunday we went down the Nine Mile River from Renfrew to Hwy 14 on the kayaks instead of hiking. It was a beautiful day on the water but I did not get any decent video so you will have to take my word for it.

Note: I had to enter Conrad's road wide because of the cars parked in the road to the right. Even still the passenger side of my van was almost hitting that first car. Also take notice of the car that passed me when I stopped at the stop sign on my way out.
